Once again the Obamas vividly illustrate just how classy they are. Maybe on there next trip to the UK they can get the queen a microwave.

I'll admit that the DVDs (which I don't think were a bad gift themselves) paled against the HMS Gannet pen holder but apparently the Queen gives everyone... a silver framed photo of herself and her husband Smiley: dubious

I'll take the iPod.

What do you think this says about the Obamas? 500 staff accompanied them to the UK and the best all those great minds could come up with was an Ipod. The british are still our ally aren't they?

What do you want them to give? Frankincense? Central Park? A Big Mac? What difference does it make? Maybe the iPod has some sweet music already picked out and recorded on it.

Two iPods is infinately more desirable than one photo of the old broad with her husband. Hell, the cash value of the iPod is probably greater than that of the frame.

About as much as Bush's bomber jacket or the Queen's stock photo did -- Very, very little.

None whatsoever. He could've given her a piece of string and two paper clips, she probably wouldn't even have noticed.

An Ipod is ok, she can always sell it on Ebay.

It had video footage of the Queen's visit to the US in 2007 on it.

Obama should have followed HRM's lead and put home videos of himself and Michelle on it.

The best part is that it came pre-loaded with the Pubbies' new hip-hop theme song.

Personally I think its better then some expensive gift. As someone said before, In the economic conditions that we are in if he had spent a lot of money on a gift he would have heard a bunch of **** about people being out of work and here he is spending money on expensive presents.

I think he’s doing the right thing. I like the guy.

I hear he's also letting Gordon have a go on 'chelle.

Frankly I'd rather have a horizontal handshake with Mme Sarkozy, but let's face it. You would, wouldn't you.

That said, if I was coming to visit President Obama and was bringing along a piece of the True Cross as a gift, I'd drop some hints first.

Michelle should have been canning, baking and crafting gifts for all the world leaders. Slacker.

No. Why would I care? I don't even remember hearing about the bomber jacket at the time. It only came up when the DVD story was making the rounds.

p.s. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get someone a nice gift. It just takes a little thought and effort.

Does your momma know you talk to people like that? Very mature and it really makes people want to take anything you say seriously.

As Ash said, It could have some very thought out and sentimental songs or message on the thing. You don't know.

As for the 500 people,(Which I would like you to show proof that the number was that large) Your not the president so you don't know what he needs to have with him and many of those people are not getting paid by the president. Many of the people are on the dime of corporations or other senators.

So before you start throwing stones, saying people are stupid and making assumptions stop and use your head. It’s that lump 3 feet from your ***.

Why aren't you upset this might upset our ally?
Because I trust that our relationship with the UK is based on more than the exchange of tchotchkes.

According to the Christian Science Monitor, Obama also gave the Queen a songbook signed by late composer Richard Rogers.

Hm, seems they also gave the Queen "a rare songbook signed by composer Richard Rodgers."

It's a musical theme!

Yay!

Gordy should totally give Barry a vial of Sid Vicious's phlegm or a piece of vomit that choked Hendrix.

Oh, do you all have custody of the Hendrix vomit? I know the French have the Morrison drool.

You just love apologizing for barry don't you? It would kill you to say barry has no class wouldn't it?
Apologizing? Are you actually saying that the exchange of baubles is a foundation of our relationship with the UK? That our relationship would be shaken by poor gift giving?

I already said that the DVD set paled against the pen holder. On the other hand, an iPod and a rare, signed songbook by a famous composer beats the hell out of a framed photo of the Queen.
