Sick and the boys were out food shopping and I stepped outside for a moment when I heard an animal scream. Looking over across the yard I saw a cat playing with something, bigger than a mouse. I ventured over to investigate and found a baby bunny lying on the ground. It was old enough to be independent from the parents, but just barely. Shooing the cat away I checked him out. He wasn't moving, but alive. I wasnt sure how badly he was hurt. I picked him up, brought him inside, and placed him in an orange crate with a towel and water. After about 10 minutes he started moving around, trying to hop the crate so I'm guessing no broken bones, he's just shook up.

So now I've got a stupid baby bunny next to my computer, with a towel over the top of the crate, and the kids warned with death if they try to touch the bunny. I called the local rescue place that does take rabbits but havent heard back. If I dont hear back in a few hours I'll pu thim back outside.

Sick is teasing me about breaking the food chain cycle. Stupid bunny

DSD & I ordered Peruvian rabbits once for dinner. Between our two plates, we had about eleventy-fifty bajillion bones. I've no idea what the rabbit uses them all for.

Sorry no pics. I already let the guy go. But he looked exactly like this.

Xavier and I took him outside and after careful scouting (Xavier insisted) and no cats around, we let him go in our front yard. He hopped off fast so any injuries this fella had were minor.

As for the cat, he gets enough food from the neighbors and I'm sure there are plenty other baby bunnies for him to feast on. This lil guy got an extra chance, but I'm not going to be there to save his *** all the time, so he better have learned a good lesson today: hide from cats.

You know, I am remembering that episode of Simpsons where Lisa saves a rodent from the hawk, and scolds the hawk for trying to eat the rodent.

Then as she walks away, the rodent climbs the tree and eats the hawk's eggs...

I don't know how warm it is for you right now, DSD, but it's possible he just got overheated. One summer while I was staying in Arkansas with relatives, we got a couple bunnies, and the neighbor kids brought their dog along while coming to see them and the dog scared one and began to chase it. After we caught the dog, we found the bunny flopped over on his side behind a hedge panting and overheated. We brought him back to the shade and cooled him down and he was fine.
