Sorry, some of us take the "whole gay thing" very seriously. Maybe someday I can look back and laugh, but not right now.

/shrug

Regardless, I'm relatively sure I haven't rated you down, certainly not recently.

Radicals typically take isolated incidents to validate their stance, whatever the issue may be.

For instance; if I were a radical who hated blacks I could easily point to the brutal car jacking/murder/rape of two white college kids (google Christopher Newsom) as an excuse to hate blacks.

See how that works?

While, as usual, I'm sure you're just trolling, I'm failing to understand your point. Are you implying that I hate bigots and so use isolated instances of bigots killing people to justify my stance?

Guilty, I suppose.

Your analogy is backwards, as you would (in this case) be a radical who hates gays. Unless you're taking the brutal murder of a gay man as an excuse to hate gays?

Edit: Maybe the point you were going for is "killing or discriminating because of something superfluous like race or sexual orientation is idiotic." I think we'd agree. Then again, you DID say you wanted Chicago to be bombed by terrorists...

Nexa,

No; I'm saying you're using a tragedy to further your agenda. That in and of itself is illustrative of a lack of moral integrity. Further your agenda based on ideals and principles, not the misfortune of someone else at the hands of a maniac. Were I to use your logic I could safely assume that all blacks have a propensity to rape and murder based on the actions of a couple.

No, I was using a tragedy as an example of why I find it difficult to laugh at the issue. There's a rather big difference. What agenda do you suppose I was furthering by citing the murder of a local gay man? The "it's not cool to beat and strangle gay men" agenda? Maybe I'm living in a fantasy world, but I kind of hoped were were at least beyond needing to "further" that.

Reading comprehension...I don't have long posts like gbaji, you can manage this man.

She did tell you...

Hate is bad. You somehow switched the conversation away from civil unions and turned it into "the whole gay thing." They're separate issues. "The whole gay thing" is what we're addressing in responses to you; it's important because, hey, people are getting killed because of "the whole gay thing."
Varrus wrote:

Who is talking about moral integrity (except you)? A gay man was murdered because he was gay. Yup, mentioning that definitely shows a lack of moral integrity. Some people find "acceptance" difficult refuse to accept things they don't agree with, which is fine, but then you simply ignore the fact that this seething hatred is getting folks killed.

Anyway, this has gotten off-topic. Apparently your stated reason for being against gay marriage or civil unions is the increased STD rates. Taking this to the logical conclusion, you believe 1/4 of teenage girls should not be married because marriage usually involves sex (at the beginning at least :-P), which increases the chance to spread said STDs. I think both positions are idiotic, personally.

And blacks are killing whites because of "the whole race thing". Kind of sounds stupid when you hear it like that doesn't it?

Well, yeah, it does. You shrug off something by calling it "the whole X thing" when people are dying. I agree it sounds dumb to do that... I don't think you should demean the purposeful hatred and death being doled out.

Actually I don't think the govn should involve itself with who marries whom. But then again I think single people should receive the same tax breaks that married couples receive. You know that whole equality under the law bit. Why should someone who chooses to not to marry pay a higher tax rate than someone who does?

I agree with this in principle, actually. The government should just let gays marry if they want to, and everyone gets the same benefit, married or not. But I do think the gov't should have some control, as in the cases where a person cannot give their own consent because of age or mental impairment.
