Hah, you got ripped off. I got a home waterboarding set and a couple of thumbscrews off ebay for $14 total.

I heard it sucked, the art was terrible, and it was largely ignored by the original EQ crew it was targeting.

I'm over on the blackburrow server. I know a couple of others play on other servers (DF and Kao?). If you join up and find yourself on Blackburrow send me a PM here. I've got a private chat going for Asylumites and friends.

Look for the character Voyde. I should be on tonight around 7 ET as it's raid night. Any questions you have about the game itself lemme know.

ETA as for gameplay, it did suck when it first came out... how many years ago was that? Since then they have done major changes to the game and it's a lot better and more fun. Even when I take sabbaticals and try a new game I always end up back.

I haven't played it for awhile, but I think it's really the most complete game out there right now. It looks amazing with the right computer, it's solo or group friendly, there's housing, instances, outdoor quests, great crafting, the mentor system is f*cking brilliant, it has the widest variety of races and classes out there and it's really just genuinely fun. If WoW wasn't so accessible I'd probably be playing EQII. Also, DSD and Sick are the best guides you could ask for.

I guessed Blackburrow, so good :)

I'm Barias the Gnome Monk. Not really sure why I can shapeshift into a robotic helicopter, but hey.

Monks are hella fun to play and solo with. One of my former mains was a monk and I only switched to dirge because our raid force desperately needed one. Dirges are fun too, but there is a lot more survivability with a monk. I still use her once in awhile for farming harder spots. Feel free to look me up.

I agree with this fully, luckily they didn't go through with the fighter revamp, monks are great for soloing and also a good addition to a group.

Haven't played for about three months now, there's still an itch from time to time, I just don't care for the latest expansion whatsoever.

I quit a few months back but before that I had soloed my monk up to 50 something. It was really fun to play and a piece of cake to solo. Such a different world to my wizzy.

I have a Blackburrow char as well, but I hate soloing all the time... same reason I don't even play wow any more.

Compared to WoW, EQ2 requires careful thought and planning... The older I get the more I just like my games to be easy on the brain.

I have a 80 pally on Nek Server. I have raided just a few times and mostly just solo or group with a buddy. Haven't played in 4 months or so.

Graphics are amazing. Adventuring is neat. Quests are like WoW. Crafting is not like WoW. Housing is cool but completely fluffy and unnessary. Guild halls are a nice touch.

That game has evolved many times over with large changes to pretty much every aspect. SoE is trying to make it into WoW and failing miserably. My buddy and I started on it's release date. He is hardcore, I am just a casual player. He likes the endgame. I haven't seen the latest two expansion endgames so can't comment.

Only reason I play it was due to being hooked casually on EQ1 and the lore, zones, and such.

Samira, did I tell you I rerolled alliance? Yeah.

Emerald Dream, though, because I need my world pvp fix. I RP, so that ups my fluffy-bunny points by a good margin.

waiting for SOE to revamp the origonal EQ with WoW game play. origonal zones, origonal classes, origonal lore, just do away with the group mentality. mabe save the top few levels for groups, then dumb them down for solo when a new expansion comes out.

EQ1 has the best world in the mmorpg genre. also the worst playability for the masses who just want to have a little fun after work/school and not necessarily hold down a second job.

EQ2 is on the right track, but way too slow and way too late. they missed the train so to speak. a kinda sorta EQ1 who wants to be kinda sorta like WoW, but doesnt really fit into either catagory completly.

if soe waits too long, blizzard will do a revamp of the graphics in WoW, and not only will it be too late, the lights will go out and the door will close for a long long time.

the pvp games that have launched have been flashes in the pan, every one. bang, then gone.

What class/race? I have horde characters on Grizzly Hills now. I'm basically a squirrel with a job.

If you can't easily solo until the last 5-10 levels (depending on class) in EQ these days, you shouldn't even be allowed onto a computer.

I'll come to Emerald Dream and role-play jaw dropping dps.

Eventually.

I won't.

Jade and I just dinged 70 yesterday and got to see the new expansion(months old, but new to me) for the first time. Also, I have played with an Allakhazam WoW guild on a roleplaying server before and it ended with a lot of butthurt. So not much different from the OoT guild I played with on a PvP server.

i guess you skipped right over the part about "most people just want to have a little fun, not a second job".

you can solo if you either have raid gear or you are a kiting class and do not get hit. or you fight light blue mobs and get a bubble every, say, 40 or 50 kills. and you have to accept that you will never see a dungon unless it is in the origonal expansion, or the mobs no longer give xp unless, again, you have raid gear or can root cook and do not get hit.

been there, done that. fell asleep while watching the sci-fi channel waiting for respawns.

thats why EQ is dying. and WoW isnt. and EQ2 is only firing on 2 of its 8 cylinders.

people want to play, not hold down a second job. most of them anyway.

Mercenaries, potions and low-level defiant gear drops have made soloing trivial. If you can't do it these days, the problem is no longer with EQ.

Goddammit, BT. Why did you have to link that? I was happy not knowing about mercenaries.

I'll just pretend they're prohibitively expensive and difficult to use.

Oh, most definately. Nothing worse than a pocket cleric who gives you level appropriate buffs, heals and will even resurrect you. They're absolutely horrible.

Hey, has anyone ever thought to organize an Asylum guild for EQ? It could be fun!
