The chief executive of Sony France is today being held hostage by factory workers angry at their severance packages.

Serge Foucher traveled to the video tape plant at Pontonx-sur-l'Adour, in the Landes region of south-west France, yesterday as a final courtesy visit to more than 300 sacked workers before the factory closes on 17 April. Dozens of staff took him hostage in the factory at 5pm and baracaded the entry to the site with tree trunks last night.

Patrick Hachaguer, a representative from the communist-leaning CGT union confirmed that Foucher had spent the night shut in a meeting room. "He won't listen to us, we didn't find any other solution," the union delegate told Agence France Presse.

Absolutely fucking awesome.

As someone who's being made redundant, without any severance pay despite my permanent contract, I totally empathise with them. In fact, I'm kicking myself for not having done the same thing. Especially since I get on quite well with my boss, who's a fellow ******* fan, so the whole hostage thing would've been quite fun.

Ah well, next job I get fired from.

And now we see why the French lack any courtesy. When it's given to them, they take people hostage!

If only the French Socialist party could stop bickering with itself for five seconds, they could probably ride the wave of working and middle class dissent into power. Of course, we all know that will never happen.

"Video tape plant"?

I'm surprised they weren't fired back in 2004.

You know Ugly, if I was your employee, I would totally take you as a hostage.

Ah man, our socialists are borderline retarded. It's actually quite sad. They are totally lost. They barely know who they are anymore. I'm sure some of them can't even remember their own name.

But I totally agree, if anything can revive the left, it's an energetic and pro-active right-wing President in the middle of an economic crisis.

Don't worry, they'll wave the white flag soon enough.
