You know what.

I have a pretty busy weekend ahead, packing, cleaning, planning and preparing. We leave on Monday for Montréal (and a couple days in Ottawa) to finish up the Carte Verte...FINALLY. Should be a long week of driving, medical exams and interviews to get done. On the plus side, home sweet home, poutine, and some time away with the family. All good.

À bientôt!

I'm going to spend the weekend cleaning and wallowing in self-pity since I'm evidently unemployable by anyone in the state of Massachusetts.

Good old Montreal. Greatest city to visit, couldn't imagine living there though.

Got 2 showings on our house tonight and another tomorrow morning and that's about the extent of my weekend. Guess the rest is just relaxing in whatever manner the kids see fit to allow me to do.

Damn you Nobby, I LOVE Mark Steel.

This week-end, I'm going to prematurely celebrate. I got a job interview next week, so I intend to get drunk and high, just in case I don't get the job and miss out on the celebrations.

Other than that, my girlfriend is in Norway for 10 days, so I'll have the flat all to myself. I'm going to party like it's, well, Tuesday the 17th November at 18h00, roughly, and do all the things I'm not supposed to do like, erm, smoke pot and play WOW, which I do anyway, except that this time I'll be naked!

In other news, and while I realise that this isn't my blog, I do feel that Friday threads are intended to be semi-autobiographic accounts of the routine that permeates our lives, I've had two articles "intended for publications" by the "Stupid Times", the English wanna-be equivalent of the Onion. Except it's nowehere near as good as the Onion, which probably explains why they might publish the articles I sent them. One is all about bank-robbers being driven out of business by the credit-crunch, and the other is about the leader of the BNP being the latest politician to model himself on Obama. I'll keep you posted if and when they appear.

The hubby just returned from 3 weeks away, so I'll be having lotsa sex.

I plan on grinding through my Friday work day with the help of NPR and a live concert they'll be airing today at noon (est) by Bell X1, an Irish pop-rock band. They're pretty good.

Have fun Tare.

Saturday morning we're hitting a museum in Durham that's holding a robot exhibit. My boys are ecstatic. From there we're hitting the road and driving to Asheville, in the mountains and spending a couple of days. We're going to see The Biltmore, eat at Spirits on the river, and check out Chimney Rock State Park.. Should be fun Smiley: cool

I'm so sorry, Nexa, that your job search isn't going well in Mass. Smiley: frown

As for me, today is trying to get my bearings for my new job. Recap for those not in the know: My position at my old company was eliminated on Monday. I was given the news Monday morning. I made some calls that same morning, met with a few temp agencies that afternoon and Tuesday morning. My old boss from '95 told me to go see him as he had some ideas. And he hired me on a part-time basis as of Wednesday. As of Thursday, he put me full-time at a higher pay than what I was making at my old company. My old company gave me a call yesterday asking if I had a couple of weeks to spare to help out and I told them I was already working. I loved saying that.

But for weekend plans, like I said, today I'm just having to get my bearings for my new job, even though I was here 13 years ago, lots has changed so I need to get the routine going. Tonight is getting my house in order.

Saturday, coffee with some friends. I'll be drinking tea. More getting house in order chores.

Sunday, church and more getting house in order chores.

My house is in a sad state of affairs. Very sad.

It's spring break, so Lahurah is coming over to crash for the weekend and we're having a 72 hour FFXI marathon.

Lothar (my fiance) is still investigating agencies to apply for since he got PMF, and we're starting to look at various DC neighborhoods in case he's asked to move up there sooner rather than later. He's already gotten several invitations to apply, but we're still trying to figure out what the DoD or SSA needs with an education guy. (Best guess for DoD is someone to help run schools on military bases and stuff.)

In addition to DC neighborhoods, I'm also casually scoping out tech schools . . . now that I'm no longer going to be the primary breadwinner for a graduate student, it's my turn to go finish off my education, and that begins with knocking out IT certifications.

Smiley: yippee

Right now my life is in flux. But this is a good thing. I was in a rut, but now we can see an intersection up ahead . . . and it's paved!

I'm waiting for my daughter to pick me up, for my dentist appointment. I'm having few cavities filled today []

Tomorrow I have Balticon 43 meeting to attend, as it's just 2 months away. I'll be calling members that marked needing handicap access on their forms. I may also go check out some vendors for some kinky items Jonwin and I can play with. All depends on if ride can get me back in time for meeting.

Sunday is day to sleep in as I won't get much sleep during the night as I go without sleep aid Saturday. I need to make sure I have one for Sunday night so next morning I'll be functional again. Praying someone cancels there appointment with my doctor, so I can see him and get new scripts for my medications.

It's incredibly depressing and so hard not to be completely discouraged. I'm really happy things worked out for you though Thumb, that's the most fantastic turnaround time on an unexpected job hunt that I've ever heard of :)

An email I just got:

Quote:
Dear Friend of United for a Fair Economy,

You or someone you know may be just what we're looking for.

We're searching for an Executive Director to join us in mobilizing people to create a sustainable, equitable society.

In our 14 years, we've seen awareness of economic inequality grow from obscurity to the dominant topic of conversation and news stories. The economic crisis and the popular surge to elect President Obama give us an exceptional opportunity to make real progress toward fundamental economic change.

As you might imagine, we need a highly experienced, strategic thinking and culturally competent Executive Director who wants to lead a passionate team dedicated to economic justice and social movements for greater equality. At least 10 years of senior nonprofit management and proven track record of successful fundraising required. Women and candidates of color are encouraged to apply.

Please help us with the search. Check out the full position profile and job application process to see if it might be right for you or folks you know. Please feel free to forward this email to your contacts.

Oh, also, if you are in social services, because of the change in the law, there are going to be TONS of entry level social work positions in CSAs. The problem is that Nexa works in Higher Education and from what I've heard from everyone I know who works at colleges, b/c of all the investments gone awry, that they have to really tighten their belts.

Yeah...either public institutions lost state/fed funding or private institutions lost hugely in the markets. Donations are down as well for the same reason. Problems I'm encountering: 1. Positions are not being filled/eliminated. 2. Positions are being filled with internal candidates, regardless of qualifications. 3. Positions are being put on hold...forever. 4. People are not leaving positions because there are no jobs, haha.

Other problem: I'm having zero luck looking for anything outside of higher ed because I'm overqualified/educated for entry level in almost anything and don't have the experience for middle management in the private sector (evidently, the fact that I pick up almost anything absurdly quickly doesn't matter when you're going through 250 resumes and just need to be able to narrow it down to a few worthy of interview).

Suckedy suck suck suck. Thanks for thinking of me though, I appreciate it. :D

I remain in housing hold pattern Beta 12. Nothing is happening, and the frustration level of nothign happening is really getting to me.

One possiblity may be that I say ********** this" go buy a different house, and then if they sue me and I lose, the civil judgement wage garnishes can't be high enough that I cannot afford the new house, so I would at least have "a" house at that point if the other people aren't willing to play ball.

Good luck Job Hunting Nexa!

I'm not expert on Washington contract law by any stretch, but it's hard to imagine this being even remotely possible given your narrative of the timing of events. You didn't own the house, the title/deed was still registered to the previous owner, escrow hadn't closed, how can you possibly be in breach for declining to purchase the home in it's current state?

Not contract breach. Property damage. And even then, the lawyer type says if they sue me worst I would be looking at would be partial damage cost judgement, and the amount may be low enough that they just won't bother with a lawsuit. And it was covered under their insurance, so /shrug?

I'll be waitressing at the steakhouse this weekend as usual. Business is slooow. Next week is spring break, so I'll be spending that time studying and signing up to take the USPS exam. The local offices are hiring, and the pay is a hell of a lot better than anything else I could get.
