And this heart and family just got an accepted offer on a new place to call home. If all goes well, 60 days from now we will be collecting the keys on THIS. 3600 sq/ft, 5br 3.5 bath, 6 year old home. We are totally excited. To finally own a home and not have to rent anymore is a wonderful feeling. I will be sad to leave the bay area but those damn house prices around here are just too high. Since we are buying it outright and not carrying a mortgage, the wife will be able to stay at home to keep the 14 year old out of trouble and raise our 6 month old. I am just so damn excited that I wish we could move in now.

We are going to redo the kitchen with granite countertops and I’m actually thinking about getting a new fridge. We are also going to have someone come in and spackle/repaint the interior and add crown molding throughout. Later on down the line I want to rip out the putting green in back and one of the patios to put in a pool because it gets friggin hot down there.

No room in the guard tower thing. It’s just the entry way. And the tub in the master bath is just a soaking tub. Not a Jacuzzi.

It's Varrus. He has to complain about something in every post or it's just not worth it for him to keep making accounts.

No, I'm sure he's going to be talking about some clever real estate scheme or some stupid thing. He's a real estate agent with over 2 employees working for him!

I'm betting you'd get an enormous incentive to pay cash for a house these days.

I will indulge Virus…

We are not blowing our entire wad on the house. That would be insane. We will still have a substantial amount of money that we will be able to access if things go tits up.

Also this.

And add to it, if I loose my job, no one can take it away from me, I don’t have any debt (even though a mortgage is considered “good debt”) and we talked to a CPA who informed us that between house payments and writing off the interest, there isn’t a distinct advantage to carrying a mortgage IF you can buy it outright.

I think 50k below asking price is a huge incentive. ;)

Nice house and congratulations. Still, I am so jealous. You have green grass and all and I have snow for at least another month. :(
#22REDACTED, Posted: Mar 09 2009 at 10:12 AM, Rating: Unrated, (Expand Post) Talk about defensive. The only reason I mentioned it is if you have say a major medical expense and loose your job your savings will go quickly and it's extremely difficult to re-fi if you're unemployeed, even if the house is paid for. Just two different schools of thought I suppose.

Wait, you're getting rid of the putting green?! WHY??

When I buy a house, first thing I want to do is set up a small driving range or putting/chipping green.
