At the age of 13 I delivered newspapers for the Easton Express. Not quite sure how much I earned but it was close to $1.00 + tips per week. I think I cleared a whooping $50-$60 every two weeks! That was serious jack back in the day (1987?). It was maybe 45 minutes of work per day...

First real job was a dishwasher/server at an old folks home in charlotte, NC. I think it was either $4.25 or $4.65 per hour.

My first "paying" job was that of a paperboy. I didnt make a lot of money at it.

My first hourly wage job was working on the historic ship Constellation
where I did light cleaning and gave tours. I was paid $2.10 an hour (at least that's what I think the minimum wage was.

Compare today's rates
$11.64 using the Consumer Price Index
$9.34 using the GDP deflator
using value of consumer bundle
$11.89 using the unskilled wage
$19.42 using the nominal GDP per capita
$28.85 using the relative share of GDP

Today I work on the same historic ship. I get paid 12.00 an hour, my work involves giving tours and light cleaning.

I don't know if I should laugh, cry, or make myself a drink.

Making your own would be cheaper than paying someone to make it for you, thats for sure...

Bsing tables at the local Bonanza restaurant. Of course, that particual establishment no longer exists having been absorbed the Native run casino (FYI I am an inhabitant of Saskatchewan, Canada and we have those sorts of things here...:)

What, Bonanza restaurants? Never heard of em.

We do have Indian casinos here too, you know.
