(*'-') Here's one for today.

Now *that* is Climate Justice

Back in mid-December, some lefty green group called for a massive rally in DC: http://itsgettinghotinhere.org/2008/12/18/make-climate-justice-history-mass-civil-disobedience-march-2nd-2009-in-dc/

Make Climate Justice History - Mass civil disobedience March 2nd, 2009 in DC

At that time Greg Pollowitz at NRO's Planet Gore went out on a limb and said:

Anyone want to bet on a snowstorm hitting D.C. on March 2, 2009?

Today's Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/02/AR2009030200476.html?hpid=topnews

Snow Blankets Washington Area
Region Braces for What Could Be Largest Winter Storm in Three Years

Guess all you global warming protestors had better bundle up!

Violent storms are proof of climate change!

Then again, so is lack of violent storms.

Linky to relevant post I wrote earlier in the OOT today.

An overall warmer planet would mean more extreme cold and storms in some places, and times, more extreme heat in some places and times, more overall precipitation in some areas, and less overall precipitation in others. If you don't know why that is, then you need to read up more on weather formation.

Now is a great time to be a climatologist. I think I'll go back to school for the required 6 weeks and get my climatologist diploma. I'll be a millionaire by the end of the year.

Yup. Weather, water cycles, albedo, heat, Coriolis forces, ocean currents, geography, yadda yadda yadda, it's all a fascinatingly complex system.

Wait, really? Someone in 2009 still disputing global warming? Really, based on a winter storm? Really, really? Even though 5 degrees global warmer would basically end life as we know it, you really think that this particular storm indicates anything?

It's funny, because actually I do all those things. And as far as hype and hysteria goes, it's not hysterical to admit that it is well-established in the scientific community that mankind has had a significant environmental impact, resulting in an increase of global temperature. Now, I usually focus on the mainstream of science. If you want to concentrate your efforts on the tiny slice of mostly discredited scientists that debunk global warming, I suppose everyone believes in something.

Hmmm, trolls are fun. I personally always felt Global Warming was a bad term, precisely because morans point out big blizzards and go "HA! Global WARMING?" I guess "Climate Extremity" isn't as catchy, but seems a bit more accurate. The result is greater variation of conditions in many areas. Aripyanfar is right; it's a very interesting and complex system.

I'm glad; that merely makes you gullible and not a hypocrite, as is often the case.

I love when people assume something is a massive global conspiracy without stopping to wonder why anyone would bother conspiring about it.

I mean seriously, what's to gain by being concerned about mankind's effect on the planet's ecosystem?

Environmentalists are much more interested in massive ecoprofits than the oil companies, who only care about the little guy. Jeez, why would the republicans do anything to support big oil?

When you group everyone under the giant label of "scientists," it's easy to pretend that all of their opinions are relevant. The relevant scientific community has as homogeneous a view on climate change as they do on the issue of evolution. You can try to argue that their views don't matter or that it is a giant conspiracy, but it is categorically false to state that there is anything approaching significant dissent.

That's a pretty dismissive statement.

I guess those are easy to make when everything that does and does not happen can be used to support your argument.
