Market reacts to "stimulus" billFollow

#1 Feb 17 2009 at 9:48 AM Rating: Sub-Default
Dow now at it's lowest point in 10yrs, before W. It's clear the business world is not confident in this new plan.

Oh and Jophiel 19 GOP senate seats up for grabs compared to 17 Dems for the 2010 election. Hardly an advantage if the economy shows no signs of improvement.

If you're really curious check the stats on how voters react to the incumbent party mid-term when the economy is failing.

Why hello. It's almost as if you don't have any idea how the stock market works.

But I take it you have invested in it, so you can't be that dumb, right?

Considering the the public opinion of Congressional Dems has gone up, while the public opinion of Congressional Republicans has tanked, all in the last month, I'm not too worried about 2010 if this trend holds.

Well, he certainly hates Chicago, and Americans who live in Chicago.

I theorize it's because of how easily Jophiel hands him his *** in any debate.

I was trying to think of the terms that Coulter and her pals used about democrats who criticized the government. He's a "hate America first"er.

Primary difference being that the GOP will have five open seats to defend (3 of them in states that went blue in 2008) vs a single open seat in Delaware which is nearly guaranteed to go Democratic. Most of the seats on both sides are pretty safe. The bulk of the ones in plkay are being held by the GOP.

Oh, and the markets are largely reacting to the fact that GM could be going under if it can't prove its viability to the government by tomorrow's deadline and thusly forfeits its bailout package.

Right. Remember when you said that about the Democrats in the House? How'd that work out for ya? Smiley: laugh

The market's problem with this bill is that it isn't large enough. Not that it's too large. This isn't at all in dispute. Wall street wants to see about a 2 Trillion spending outlay to meet the expected private sector shortfall in GDP.

Out of offhand curiosity, does anyone know what FDR's New Deal spending amounted to in real dollars?

$500 Billion in 2007 dollars. There's an infinite amount of arguing that can be done, with no actual evidence in either direction that we're still paying for the New Deal today because of entitlements, that WW2 was the real economic savior, etc etc etc ad infinitum.
