...but I LOVE this.

Quote:

Mat made of moss stays alive with the help of bath water
A new bathmat made of moss is kept alive by the water that drips from your body as you dry.

The mat contains a total of 70 pieces of ball, island and forest moss measuring 2.4in (6cm) each in diameter.

It feels soft underfoot and does not smell when it gets damp.

Each piece of moss is cut into a foam frame, which prevents the moss from spreading or growing out of control.

Its designer, Nguyen La Chanh, from Switzerland, says the mat is very relaxing and needs little care.

She said: "The idea was to find a new way of having your plants inside.

"Not only plants in pots quietly standing in the corner of a living room but alive plants, evolving in the house.

"I think this mat would appeal people who miss a corner of nature in their appartment - perhaps if they live in an urban environment, far from parks and nature areas.

"It's relaxing, feels lovely and soft under the feet and doesn't need much care."

Miss Nguyen is looking for financial backing so she can mass produce the mat for less than the £220 it cost her to make.

I'm totally going to make my own.

It sounds unnecessarily lavish, actually. Plants can be expensive.

Would you really play ~220 pounds for a bathroom mat?

I'm pretty sure the bathroom mat in your average bachelor pad has shit growing on it already, at a cheaper price.

When I saw an article a few weeks back on this I thought the same thing.

I would actually purchase this if the price were in the 50-100$US.

Would feel much more organic having a bath mat of moss. Combine this with my waterfall showerhead and I would feel like I was living in a jungle. Smiley: thumbsup

I'd be worried about what would happen to that bath mat with repeated contact with my feet, dirty or clean. And its not like you can really wash it...

I'd imagine that any dirt accumulating on the mat would just become fertilizer for the moss.

This would go great with my house designed with fairway lawn halls and putting green room floors.

Wouldn't you then walk away from your shower with bits of moss on your feet?

I'm thinking it would be really great for my future conservatory/jacuzzi room. It will be attached to the house, primarily glass, and full of plants...including citrus trees.

When I was little, I wanted it to have parrots and lizards running around, but then my father helpfully pointed out that I'd have to go in every morning to clean up all the bird **** and fish the drowned lizards out of my hot tub.

Nix probably has something similar in his house, though it's certainly not kept alive through frequent shower use. Smiley: schooled

I fail to see how a moss mat is going to dry your feet after a bath. In fact you may need to wash your feet again after using the mat.

I'm pretty sure any self-respecting bachelor will just dump the pad for free and deal with the mildew on the floor below it.
