So last night I watched "Il Y A Longtemps Que Je T'Aime" (I've loved you for ages).
Not the chirpiest movie ever made, but if you want to see a representation of someone coping with a return to society after a long exile, it's worthwhile.
I'll be honest, the main reason I saw it was Kristin Scott Thomas (avatard-worthy goddess of loveliness) - not just that she makes me feel funny in me trousies, but because I love her style of acting - quiet, understated, but usually masking an edge of innate dignity under a veneer of vulnerability. So this part was perfect for her.
Some beautiful observations of how complicated family life can be, dry commentary on how ready we are to judge, and a plot I daren't describe for giving away too much.
The g/f wants to watch it so I'm trying to find a version with English subtitles (chances are I may have missed linguistic nuances - my French ain't what it was).
Red - highly recommended
Joph - as a discerning movie viewer, I really recommend it.
Everyone else - no CGI, no car explosions, no nekkid robots. Move along.
