Well, an update:

The cause of the flooding was the second floor washing machine hookups. They were in the closed "off" position when the hosue was inspected, I was present at the inspection. Somehow between that event and when the water was turend on, both valves were turned to fully open "on". Without a washer attached.

I had no access to the house interior whatsoever during that time. There is no call for those valves to have been opened after the inspection for any purposes whatsoever. So basically when the water was turned on regardless of my presence inside the house or not, I would have been completely ******* though not perhaps to the extent that the house is now.

At this point I pretty much have to walk away. I'll know more tomorrow.

Well that's just the pits Kaolian. Maybe you weren't meant to be a homeowner. I'd suggest a yacht or a big ol mobile home if you want a change up from apt. life. Hey you have any lighthouses around? They're always in need of caretakers.

I guess if you jump into something feet first you can expect to get a little wet.

If it makes you feel any better, this happened to me after I bought my condo and hadn't moved in yet. It was also after a 7000 dollar hardwood floor had been installed. :(

That sucks, Kao. Hope it works out for ya.

I suppose that is a bright side. I hadn't moved in yet. Can you imagine if my computers had been in there?

How bad was the damage? Was the water running for days, or a few hours?

Pretty damn bad. about 14 hours. No cost estimate yet, but if the water isn't in the walls, probably at least $30,000 in damage would be my guess. If it is in the wall, and there is a good chance it is in at least one wall, possibly more.
