Papers are officially signed.
Closing costs have been officially paid and recieved by title company.
Power, water, gas etc will all be on by thusday.
I apperently get my key Friday.

Most of my stuff except the computers and my kitchen is boxed up and ready to go, so theoretically I should be moved in at least partially this weekend. So Kaolian's love nest of doom (tm) will be open for buisiness, if somewhat in dissaray...

Forward progress!

You probably will not find one until the full package is passed, currently it is all preliminary.

The original credit pre-stimulus was $7,500 first time home buyer, repay over 15 years. Showed up as an additional tax on your 1040.

The "preliminary" new credit I have seen is 1 to 3% of the homes purchase price, capped at 15,000 and you do not have to repay it.

Will see what they agree upon.

I'm interested primarily because it appears that they're not going to require it to be a FTHB...since I'm not, and will hopefully soon be house shopping, haha.

With any luck you won't find out that this house was up for foreclosure, had the door kicked in and was sold by the person who didn't own it.

We bought our house about 2 years ago. We got a "Payment Reduction Notification" from some law firm in CA. They do provide a link to a Q & A page about this bill. But there is little help there. I think there is not much, yet, in place.

The new tax thing is tiny compared to the old tax thing: that you can deduct your interest.

I make about four times as much money as I did ten years ago. My tax rate is cut in half. And I don't claim a lot of little things which I could claim.

Not that this is necessarily a new thing for Kao - I don't know maybe he was buying a condo before and is moving to buy a house in which case he was already gaining this benefit.

Working to accommodate the new, lower overall limit of the bill, negotiators effectively wiped out a Senate-passed provision for a new $15,000 tax credit to defray the cost of buying a home, these officials said

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/congress_stimulus

So three's that.

That paragraph is odd.

Quote:
Working to accommodate the new, lower overall limit of the bill, negotiators effectively wiped out a Senate-passed provision for a new $15,000 tax credit to defray the cost of buying a home, these officials said. The agreement would allow taxpayers to deduct the sales tax paid on new car purchases, but not the interest on loans for the same vehicles.

Two isolated sentences, you'd assume that "the agreement" would be talking about the negotiator's agreement about the home purchases... yet it goes on to mention new cars.

Quick update from our Tax Watch company:

Tax Relief for Individuals and Families

o A Making Work Pay credit, consisting of a refundable tax credit of up to $400 per worker ($800 per couple filing jointly), phasing out completely at $200,000 for couples filing jointly and $100,000 for single filers.

o Expansion of the child tax credit (allowing families to begin qualifying for the child tax credit with every dollar earned over $3,000).

o Eased Earned Income Tax Credit rules (tax relief to families with three or more children and increased marriage penalty relief).

o A new, partially refundable $2,500 higher education tax credit.

o A one-year AMT patch.

o An enhanced credit for first-time home purchases with the removal of the repayment requirement.

o A tax deduction for state and local sales tax paid on the purchase of new cars, including light trucks and SUVs.

o Temporary suspension of tax on some unemployment benefits.

o A 60% subsidy for COBRA premiums for up to nine months.

The bold is what you are interested it, yes it is not 15,000 credit, it is still 7,500 and for first time home buyers, but now you do not have to pay it back.

Apperently the "of doom" part was prophetic.

Disaster.

After the water was turned on yesterday, apperently at some point the house, despite having passed home inspection and having working plumbing, flooded.

I don't know how bad yet. In a bizaar twist of fate, my realtor suffered a concussion resulting in partial amnesia this weekend apperently, and was near hysterical when she called. her realtor office and the loan person are looking at it and will give me a call when the extent of the damage is known.

Technically the house is not in my name until tomorrow, which may complicate things.

I am unsure what deity I pissed off. Maybe all of them.

I blame that ******* glass door. Seriously, though, eat the cost of the inspection, get your money out of escrow and move on unless there's some major compensation, like 10% of the price your paying compensation. I don't know anything about the market you're looking in, but can it really be that hard to find a house these days?
