Look like Kadima might just pip Likud to the post.

I know their poportional representation system means there's always some coalitiony compromise after it's all over, but I have my fingers crossed.

Tzipi Livni is waaaay far to the right of my own politics, but anyone further left would last no time at all. Nyetanyahu would out-extreme Hamas IMHO.

Anyone else give a toss?

Labour need the ***-kicking Kinnock received back in '91 to shake 'em up. In power, they'd fold in days and have every israeli household demanding their own personal Nucular Weapon.

Yeah, I heard only the Right can make peace in Israel. Still, I find it hard to be anything other than pessimistic about the whole thing.

Hmm. Bibi's still saying he's won. It's a fine pickle when I'm hoping for a former Mossad agent to negotiate peace with Arabs Smiley: dubious

Probably. How long can he hold the coalition together, though? A year if he's lucky?

If Netanyahu wins, all pretences will be dropped. An all out offensive against the 'enemies of Israel' will commence and his extremist views will be revealed to the rest of the world.

The crisis that follows will hopefully be the catalyst that is needed to make the un-conditional supporters of Israel realise that the problems in the ME cannot be resolved by relentlessly supporting one party to the conflict to the exclusion of all others, inc. Hamas, Hizbullah, Syria and all others in the region.

Hopefully the disaster that will evolve from Netanyahus term will lead to a huge shift in understanding of whats actually going on in the region, and will lead to a major shift in international policy.

If Livni wins, she is going to have a bloody hard time forming a govt. that will be able to do anything useful. It will be the same ol', same ol', with the continuation of settlements being built illegally, one uprising after another and the illusion that Israel is actually interested in a peaceful 2 state solution.

I hope Netanyahu wins.

It will be messy, but to carry on as is, is a nightmare for all the people of the region who want to live their lives wiothout fear of imminent destruction.

Don't be an idiot, of course it won't. In point of fact, it could be the best possible outcome. Netanyahu's not a moron, and he may be the only one able to survive concessions made to the Palestinian cause. Nixon went to China, Clinton got Welfare Reform through, etc.

I understand your reasoning, but I think you're way wrong.

Bibi brings a serious chance of mobilising a new set of Jordanian/Syrian/Iranian/Iraqi Al Q'aeda cells that would make 9-11 look like a paper-cut.

Livni could assuage the right-wingers enough to push through her 2-state policies far enough for Obama & lolClinton to get a political wedge in.

John Major only got the IRA discussions going because he had the confidence of the right-wingers at SIS (5 and 6). Sure, Bliar reaped the glad-hands for Good Friday, but it was Major's soft-right approach that did the trick.

No way to tell. Being a betting man, I'd say they're headed for another election sooner than not.
