Or maybe the Israelis?

I know it's no Katrina (you know...with those people having a week's notice...), but I thought our new Messiah Obama would fix anything and everything. Surprise!! FEMA still lacks the organization a Boy Scout Troop has!!

Ice storms suck, even up here in New England where we have it, some people were out of power almost a week (or more) after the last one hit up here.

However, if say, we weren't in Iraq, Kentucky would certainly have a lot more National Guardsman to help out, wouldn't they?

Well, if you want the honest answer then, yeah, Bush would be more to blame. FEMA is/was suffering from an institutional problem and one that wouldn't likely be fixed within a week.

Mind you, I'm not actually blaming Bush but since you're all curious about which leaders we should go after, that'd be the direction to start.

I think his point is that FEMA's ******* aren't the sitting president's fault.

My boy scout troop was pretty damn organised, by the way, so you can go **** your own face.

Maybe if those damn Southerner's knew how to drive in a little bit of ice, 42 of them wouldn't have died. Smiley: disappointed

If Strom Thurmond had been elected president, we wouldn't be in all the trouble we are today!

Funny thing is, I googled Strom, and Google has flagged the wikipedia link as "potential malware".

FEMA was restructured and placed under the control of a whole new government department (Homeland Security) under Bush. We also saw the installment of Michael Brown, a completely unqualified hack, as the director of FEMA. I think it's fair to suggest that Bush's actions had something to do with its failings during that period.

Really? Personal Insults?!?!? You're kind of an adult, huh?

I'm kind of upset about the lack of response here (I live in SE Indiana), and while the CURRENT president has time to chastize politicians for their choices in talk radio, he (as far as I know) hasn't used his 'I'm in charge now' attitude to actually FIX anything. Here's his chance to show a non-believer that he was indeed the candidate for CHANGE. At least move in that direction.

Google flagged everything, even Google, as malware for me for about ten minutes, then it stopped.

You mean like signing a bill making it easier to sue for pay discrimination claims?

Governor Daniels chose not to call for federal disaster aid. So, um... write him a sternly worded letter or something.

As for Kentucky and Arkansas (the only two states to fully declare an emergency, Missouri just requested aid on a limited basis), there's something like 32,000+ square miles of largely rural area to cover judging from my eyeballing of the FEMA maps. Not that I think New Orleans is any great comparison, but the entire city is 350 sq miles or approximately 1/90th the size of the current federal disaster area.

I'm not defending Obama or anything with this -- like I said, he's been on the job for ten days now and any problems in FEMA have been established through years.

Bush - Had 2920 days to fix his issues in office.

Obama - Had 10.

Can't get any more clear-cut than that.
