I've no idea what Paulsol's new avatar is of but I'd bet a healthy sum that it relates to righteous outrage regarding Israel/Gaza.

I don't know what you expected him to do, paul. This is like when you made that thread about the Pope condemning homosexuality and said "See, the Pope hates gays!" and it was like "He is the Pope. It would be weirder if he did like gays."

America has always supported Israel's existence. It goes beyond just presidents; Israel has too much influence in American politics for their whole foreign policy re: Israel to be reversed just because a new guy was elected. He can't turn the ship around one-eighty a week after taking office, even if he wanted to. Israel has always enjoyed the support of the Western world. Obama's not going to change that. It's not profitable for either country. It would take something massively incriminating for the West to go to war with Israel; something really gigantic, like a nuclear strike on the West Bank.

A military intervention would be disastrous, anyway. Too many people would compare it to Iraq.

Mitchell Says Extending Israel-Hamas Truce 'Critically Important'

voa wrote:
Mitchell said Wednesday that Washington supports Egypt's efforts to mediate a truce between Israel and Hamas militants. He was speaking in Cairo after talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

voa wrote:
The U.S. envoy also visits Israel today to listen to the views of Israeli leaders on reviving the peace process. Mitchell travels next to the West Bank for talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday. He does not plan to meet with Hamas.

voa wrote:
The U.S. State Department says Mitchell's talks in Egypt were "productive." It says his mission is to hear from U.S. allies about how to reach a sustainable cease-fire between Israel and Hamas and how to achieve a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He gonna intervene? or. . .

This has always been a sore spot for me on Obama's policies and something that keeps me in check from becoming another one of his adoring fans.

I 'hope' that he won't continue supporting war criminals and will prosecute some of our own as well.
