3 dead, 10 wounded at Belgium day care

Quote:
DENDERMONE, Belgium — A man went on a rampage at a Belgium daycare centre Friday, stabbing two young children and a female worker to death and slashing 10 other children all over their bodies, officials said.

Sobbing parents rushed to the scene and to hospitals, and medical workers in the town sprung into action, performing 10 operations to save the badly wounded children.

The attack caused widespread panic in the daycare centre, which serves up to 30 children on a residential street in this town 30 kilometres northwest of Brussels.

...

Dr. Ignace Demeyer, director of the local hospital, said 10 children arrived at his hospital with very serious stab wounds, all required surgery, and all were now in stable condition.

“This was a particularly violet attack. All the kids had multiple stab wounds on their legs, arms and all over their bodies,” he said.

He said two adults also required surgery and also were in stable condition.

I'm guessing he couldn't get "Lollipop Guild" out of his head and attacked the nearest representatives of the munchkin kingdom.

I don't see it mentioned in this article, but the first account I read about this attack mentioned that the attacker's face was "painted", without specifying how.

That's really disturbing. I work in Childcare ATM because I'm 33 weeks pregnant and I know I can bring my child to work as soon as I return. I would have guilt all over me if something like that were to happen like that while I was working...

About an hour and half south of me, a small town, a woman left her babies (Twins born December 26, 2008) on the bed in the other room while she was doing something in the kitchen.. BTW this happened last week... Her dog walked into the kitchen with one of the babies by the head and it later died in the hospital...

Seriously.. I don't understand people. This is my first child that I'm expecting and I can definately say I won't be doing anything stupid like that!

I'm kind of worried that you have to assert that you won't kill/attack children with a knife. Was this a conscious decision you had to make?

Also, the whole alternating capital letter thing you have going on in your name is mildly annoying.

EDIT: Upon reading it again, you're probably saying you won't be leaving your child alone, to become a plaything for your dog. I prefer to assume that you're maintaining that you won't be stabbing a whole bunch of children.

Nope. But I know better than to leave your newborn child in a different room, expecially when you have animals.

But I definately won't be harming any of the children. Lol. Although.. Some do get on my nerves... The age range I have is 3 months - 12 years old... Yesterday I had 11 kids in the room at once..

I tell ya.. Kids are hard at times.. but it doesn't mean people should harm them in anyway!

An excellent point Joph. If we allowed all nations nuclear technology too, we might be able to make portable nukes cheap enough for personal use. Now who's going to attack a daycare knowing it's armed with a nuke?

I'm going to take a stab at it and say some people are just sociopaths. Some are a cut above the competition though.

Well, again, there's a difference between delusional and sociopathic (or what used to be called sociopathic). We don't know what's up with this person yet, but most sociopaths tend to be rational, at least on the surface.

Discussion is critical to cut the fat from the meat so we can get to the bare bones of the problem.
