Possible snow accumulation tonight and tomorrow. It looks like we have a chance of getting 2 inches, possibly (but highly unlikely) up to 6 inches. From a native New Englander this is something to scoff at. However, down here in NC, they dont have the equipment to deal with snow. What does this mean? It means Xavier will have snow days until the damn stuff melts. Smiley: bah

Ahh well its back to 55 in Friday. I think I may just go out and grab a sled, just in case.

The "equipment" to deal with 2" of snow is called a shovel. They're widely available. Smiley: tongue

for driveways, sure. However Im not so sure that the Wake county is going to employ people to shovel off all the bus route roads so the little kiddies can head to school.

We're supposed to get rain later this week. Not sure how much rain, but probably enough to kill traffic conditions.

We had schools canceled last week because it was too cold, and they didn't want the kids who had to catch the bus to have to stand out in the cold. Smiley: rolleyes

That happened here last week. It was -13C. When I was a kid we were standing out in -25C, adding in windchill it was -40C or lower. What the fuck happened?

They delayed school in the county next to ours last week for cold and I couldnt help but just roll my eyes. I could understand maybe if the temps were reading in the negatives, but it was friggin 17 degrees. Dress your kids right, or drive them into school. Just because we live in the south doesnt mean we dont get cold temps once in awhile.

When I was in patagonia, I got a nasty sunburn on my ankle. It was so bad that my ankle swell until I couldn't even wear a shoe on my left foot. Ankle-swelling from a sunburn! And I'm not some bleached Scotsman that turns into a lobster when the sun comes out in April, I'm olive-skinned and spent half my childhood in the south of France.

I don't think the Southern Hemisphere likes me very much.

I dont know tbh. They do delays if there is a "chance" of freezing rain, and since Ive been down here we've had only 1/8 an inch of snow fall last year, but it was on a weekend so school was not affected. From what all the other people are saying on the NC forums, school would definitely be cancelled if we get snow. So even if we have salt, I doubt it would make school doable. Smiley: bah

Some stupid parent was still drunk and didn't dress their kid properly who then died/almost died/lost a limb from the extreme cold.

All it takes is 1.

They freak out here because of the possibility of freezing rain, which is a royal pain in the balls, to be sure.

Anywho, a little snow would be good. :)

This. We get more freezing rain and ice than snow. And ice is always worse.

It hit 90 F (32 C) here last week. Now we have beautiful weather again.

DSD: so you going to get some sled dogs with that sled? Might I recommend Newfoundlands? They can pull carts (I've seen 'em do it).

That's what we're going to do. I went to 4 different stores and no one has sleds or snow suit pants, so doubling up on pants and trash bag covered cardboard it is!

I had a 10 minute "argument" with Zavi on whether this constituted a sled. He doesnt think so, but I know for a fact those things can fly. If we actually do get snow I'm going to take photos and a video to throw back in his face later on that Mom was right Smiley: nod

We had the one really bad ice storm in what was it 2002? I'm in southern Guilford, we almost never get anything that doesn't melt in a couple hours and yet they manage to cancel school a few times a year for inclement weather. Then they keep the kids in school for an extra few days before summer vacation :(

I understand that DSD used to live in New England. As a result it is in her DNA to talk about weather. And did you see the temperatures in Northern Maine this weekend? Temperatures dipped to the minus 40s and stuff. Insane. I remember being a kid and it being that cold and I ended up freezing my ears and having to go to the hospital. They recovered. :O But damn, damn, damn, I'm glad I don't live there anymore.

I haven't check how little snow we got today, but once again Maryland drivers show how they lack the gene to remember how to drive in bad weather. We saw more then one car that ended up losing a fight with a light post. Then we had to take a detour as they closed parkway due to fact that it has one curve that wasn't graded correctly. Whenever it rains, a few folks seem to loose control going in to the curve too fast.

Took us an hour to travel what should have been a 20 minute trip across the city.

Tomorrow will be fun as I try to get to my appointment at Social Security.

It's 11pm, there is no snow on the ground yet (although we have had a little rain) and I just saw that all schools in our county are closed for tomorrow.

For giggles, here are news reports of past snowfalls in the area. I particularly like the one half way down:

Slideshow: Jan. 19, 2005 Snowfall In Raleigh

A less-than-one-inch snowfall paralyzed the city of Raleigh, stranding kids in schools overnight and leading to commutes of more than 12 hours.
