They published the 1911 census

But seriously, when I have time this weekend I'll be looking up some distant relatives Smiley: nod

I wonder how many Americans here will have relatives listed? I looked up Fry'olater but that must be in the Irish census.

The actual census website

Oh, that's exciting. My grandma was a war bride from WWII. My grandmother's family was living in England at that time and there are alot of unknowns. Part of the problem is that my great grandmother pretended she was a french lady, with her middle name being Babette, who was 11 years younger than she really was. She lied about where she came from and every marriage she had, her name changed and she became younger. My grandma doesn't know much about her own history, including having never met her old father. She was told he was dead until later in life when she found out that he was alive. If that, in fact, was her father. Or my aunt's. At least some people think, given the way my aunt looks and all the secrets, that he may have been of African or Indian origin.

Well, my cousin has found out some stuff--partly because I think they have published a previous census but now we can research more.

Bloody National Archive! Smiley: mad

I pay £10 a month to Ancestry.co.uk because Nat Arch contracted them to host all the censuses (censi?) from 1841 to 1901 (along with WW1 records, transatlantic ship rosters etc.) and I mine oodles of geneaological goodies from those.

And now they have given this deal to a different company who want another bunch of spondoolix! Well FUck 'em!

TBQH, the 1911 census isn't a biggy for me - that era of my family tree is well fleshed out with a load of 1st hand reminiscences from elderly relatives to add to the statistical data.
