It was referred to as "Jungle" during it's very brief popularity in the US. Prodigy, while not really of the genre, was the most frequently referred to group here in the US.

A couple of years ago, when I went to NYC,dragged there to see then uberhip trio, the Misshapes, I noticed all these kids were dressed like I was when I was 13. And it was retro. I finally understood why you can only live through trends once. God, I hate the kids today so @#%^ing much. Smiley: mad

But yeah, it wasn't very popular here. Americans, in general, listen to way less dance music than Europeans.

Oh and I looked in up on wikipedia, :P, the Bristol sound included groups like Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead--somewhat related to Drum and Bass--though I am still unclear exactly on this whole drum and bass thing.

I have The Album from Ultrabeat and I like a lot of Styles, Breeze, and Hixxy mp3s. I like 'em all. D:

"Real" DnB is... eh. I don't typically seek out that genre. Back in my IIDX days, I didn't mind a few of the loosely DnB tracks like Photongenic or Karma. A lot of them were crap, though.

Wait, people besides me on alla know who styles, breeze, hixxy, and ultrabeat are? Holy sh*t.

If you like them, you probably like Happy Hardcore and UK Hardcore. In which case I'm inviting you both the the best rave evar to happen on the US east cost in a long time. http://www.raversonly.com/index.php?showtopic=7149&st=0 Scroll down past the thank you things to get to information about candyball 7.

You spend your whole time in a darkened room, munching pills and listening to sh*tty, repetative music.

Reminds me of a Drum and Bass club near where I live. I guess Pacman still prevails as the better pastime (unless you play that obscure japanese version that was banned for causing epeleptic seizures) as you don't spazz-out and faint in a gutter somewhere.

Actually, in Drum and Bass's defence...

...Nope, sorry.

I reckon I don't need to hear the youtube link to know what you're reffering to... Is it "The game, Zboocan" by Hixxy :D? That's where I got it from XD

I'm surprised there's some UK hardcore loving on Alla, especially form bsphil and deadguy who I assumed were american or such o.O

I REALLY want to go to Hardcore Heaven at Pontins, but £100+ a ticket seems a bit steep, even if the line up is absolutely EPIC.

By the way, if you guys like Styles, Breeze and Hixxy, I strongly recomend the "Clubland X-treme Hardcore" CD series. It's a 3 Disk set, 1 Styles, 1 Breeze and 1 Hixxy, but seriously it's well good. lot of classics as well as their newer stuff.
Some of my favourite stuff from it has to be This, This and This. Cheesy UK Hardcore at it's finest!

To be perfectly blunt, that's because american Dance/Trance/Hardcore/Hard House is atrocious and european said genres are epic.

That said, I do love the postal service - it's not hardcore nor does it sound remotely similar, but they're modern love songs with a fast tempo - which is essentially what most hardcore is.

Yep, that would be it. Smiley: lol

I am an american, and I think bsphil is too. I don't remember right now exactly how I got into listening to hardcore, but I know I've loved it for at least 4 years minimum. Earlier this year I went to candyball 6 in nyc on halloween.

The lineup for the main room was:
Leela (NY), Crackerjack B2B Dupont (CA/CT), Sqeak B2B Tranzit (CA/Canada), Milo (Toronto), Toxic (UK), Stormtrooper (UK), The Lethal Theory Showcase featuring Joey Riot, Kurt, and MC Enemy (UK), S3rl (Australia), and Pikey (UK). Here is a link to the event on happyhardcore.com

It was awesome >:D Candyball 7 has such an hugely awesome lineup (I'm absolutely positive Sy and Unknown will be there) that when it's announced I'm sure some people from the UK will even want to come over here to enjoy it.

Actually.. this is my happy hardcore playlist right now.. http://MySBfiles.stonybrook.edu/~reick/Deadgye%20-%20Happy%20Hardcore.m3u lol..

Is there actually a proper hardcore market in the US? As in, could you go to your local Walmart (that's your basic supermarket right?) and buy the latest hardcore compilation?

Because literally, the last 4 hardcore CDs I bought (True Hardcore, Clubland 4, Hardcore Till I die (XD) and Clubland 5) I all bought at my local supermarket.

I wanna go to hardcore heavene so bad, literally every name I've ever ehard of is playing, I just really dunno if Ic an spare £100, or even if I can, idk if my (very few) other hardcore fans can, and I dont wanna go on my own!

Edit: And I HATE that there's no hardcore scene in my city! It's all Drum and ******* Bass which has no melody and is absolutely rubbish. I sware. Give me a UK or happy hardcore night, hell I'd take an old school ibiza trance night, and I'd be there every ******* night.
I'm one of the few who doesn't want/need speed or anything other than red bull and alcohol to enjoy a 100000bpm cheesy love song!

I don't even need alcohol. Bwahahaha Smiley: grin

There's reallly no hardcore market in the US that I know of though. :/ The only way I've been able to find mixes to buy have been online, and since I lacked a credit/debit card of my own until a week or two ago I was forced to basically download all my music. At least I got some mixes that aren't for sale anywhere, like some of the North American Hardcore Movement mixes.

DnB mixes well with Happy Hardcore too..

If im going to listen to electronica though, its all about the Deep house. Mark Farina, Donald Glaud, and the like.

Memories of my rave/club/drug days with me wandering around a wherehouse with 5-6 seperate rooms are flooding back to me now.

Nope. You might be able to find some dance remix compilations in the bargain bin, but from specific artists, that's a no. Most of the music stores will order it if its been published in the US, but for the most part, we've got to import it or find it on Pirate Bay.

The only reason I even know about the wonderful yumminess of HHC is because I was good friends with DJ Yonderboy, and he did some live DJing for some of our better parties back in anime club. HHC was his specialty ^^

Drum n' Bass may be a tough sell, but it's not half as hard to listen to as noise (warning: turn down your headphones).

The only D&B that I really ever listened to was **** like Photek and Roni Size back in high school. I suppose they tend to lean more towards Jungle, but that's as close to D&B and whatnot that I ever got.

D&B is good music to fall asleep too, since it's so soothing and repetitive... especially stuff like Aphrodite, which I swear is generated by a computer program.

I do like Pendulum and High Contrast, though.

And I also like the more IDM noisy stuff, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares.

Mmmmm, mindnumbingly loud and dischordant.

Warning: I listen to Happy/UK Hardcore 24/7 with no problems and speedcore gives me a headache in about 30 seconds. Listen at your own risk.

This actually reminds me of a sort of off-topic thing.. at the rave I went to, Candyball 6: Treatz and Beatz II on halloween.. two people got married! Smiley: eek

It was pretty cool to see two "kandi kids" get married at a (insanely @#%^ing awesome) rave.
