I have a gift card to spend for Barnes and Noble. I went there yesterday and while I spent a relaxing hour or so reading book covers, I really detest buying books from them and left without even purchasing a cup of coffee. I'm not one to really reread most books, so buying them, brand new, at their exorbitant prices, to me seems wasteful.

So, I thought I'd just order up a CD or two, or, they have a DvD special, buy 2 get #3 free.

Here's my thoughts on CD's (yes I still listen to music via the CD):

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever
Blitzen Trapper - Furr
Richard Thompson, 1000 years of popular music (this is not Richard's music, but old folk songs he picked and performed as favorites)

Obviously my taste in music is pretty folksy. The top two are based on only having heard one or two songs from each artist. Anyone have or heard any of these? Have any suggestions on other awesome CD's?

Movies, like books, I don't rewatch much. Any suggestions for a good Yoga or workout DvD?, how about good concerts on DvD, or what else???

Maybe I'll just buy some new stationary.

Smiley: tongue I hate shopping.

(and I still have a Sears and a Visa Gift-card to use!!)

Better yet, don't buy any merchandise...just keep the card to use in the cafe and make a habit of spending a couple afternoon's a month in there reading books you don't pay for whilst sipping a latte with a bit of cheesecake or a cookie.

I just picked up an awesome little "color your own mandalas" kit at B&N. Check out their bargain books section; the books there are much more reasonably priced, and you can get awesome non-book things too.

I had a $50 card that it took me the better part of a year to use up in that fashion, haha. I had several completely free dates with myself when the ex had the baby...nice, relaxing, and completely guilt-free.

UPDATE

I bought a booklight. Greatest thing ever. With the leftover I treated my daughter and beau to one of them big foofy coffee things while visiting them in NY.

.........AND IMPORTANT WARNING

I hadn't bothered using the Visa gift card. When I finally bothered to check, it on the website it, my $50.00 gift card was worth only 39.00 cuz of monthly fees of around five bucks. I bought gas for my sons and my car just to use it.

So, if you still got any x-mas gift cards, at least of the credit card type, you should use them.

Move to Maine. Giftcards never expire there, they live on, evergreen until their value is used.

No idea, I really don't pay much attention to 99% of posters personal details. If she does, though, she should go about getting her $11 back!

Other people wonder, Nexa and I have training. You don't really think we haven't put together a stochastic model of why you don't tell us anything, do you?

Which one did you get?

They stopped manufacturing my favorite one ever, the PHORM Light voyager though you can still get them, so I have been looking for a replacement. so far of the 12 I have tried, I have not liked any of them as well as the light voyager. Veraluxe makes one that is close, but it is pretty flimsy.

If I ever get my milling machine, I'm totally going to start making my own.

\I've got a cheap flimsy clip-on booklight that I actually haven't used in awhile. Sometimes, when my laptop is in the bedroom, I'll use a USB gooseneck light.

My last big purchase at a B&N was a bunch of Richard Russo books; Straight Man, Mohawk, The Risk Pool.

A Mighty Bright

We have a really big ol comfy leather chair that, previously, if I wanted to read in I had to lean over and get my book under the end table lamp. But NO more.

I am in Maine. The gift card came from Nebraska, well, from a relative in Nebraska. At any rate, I don't think the 'no expiration date' applies to Visa's monthly fees. The card doesn't expire as much as it just gets used up in fees.

It absolutely does. Just only to cards sold in Maine.
