This is for the Americans of the board

I'm asking as I have no idea what will happen to him and was curious. Is he due a retirement of after dinner speeches or something more productive? I was surprised enough at Blair being named Middle East Peace envoy, I'm not sure thats an option for your outgoing president.

What would you ask him to give speeches on if you did invite him to do so? Shoe hurling?

If he has any political career at all post-presidency, it would have to be among the inner pubbie circles as some kind of adviser speaker...

Yeah, he's pretty much due for retirement at the ranch.

Philanthropy, I suppose. I don't recall Bush Sr. doing any political work or speeches either.

This. I suppose he'll make a few bucks in speaking fees along the way.

I hear that January is a good month for brush clearing in Crawford.

He's going to get a bunch of cushy "board of directors" appointments for various companies that his policies have benefited over the past 8 years, to the tune of many of millions of dollars, just like his father has done.

I'm still holding out for some sort of indictment. I know its as likely as Jesus coming back, but I still hope.

He's done a bunch of stuff with Brent Scowcroft (pretty good book came out of that) and other foreign/military policy advisers. Mostly on the back of his agglomeration of the '91 coalition and other middle-east stuff.

That said, his bread & butter is with his old circle of corporate money & oil. Dubya has nothing else to fall back on, unless he can get the gig as Stephen Hawking's choreographer or Michelle Obama's fashion adviser.

It's so awkward, really. I suppose a good taxidermist could stuff him in a lifelike pose and we could use him as a coat holder in the foyer.

Smiley: mad

Our zoo's are built around the animals that were there already here.

Actually, the Henry Doorly Zoo is pretty good

The ranchers out west can have him I suppose, the counties for our 2 biggest cities voted for Obama this time around, the rest of the state shouted us down however.

So do you think any of the many groups out there are going to hold true to their word and try to bring him to trial after his presidency is over?

Not sure that would ever succeed. In doing so you would put the entirety of America and its administration on trial. History will judge him.

It's not really a question of what we're going to do with him. For all practical purposes he can do anything he wants or (he is 62) nothing at all.

Retirement is not a problem, he gets paid for the rest of his life for being president. Even if he wasn't retirement age.

Cutting him open and, pulling out all of his organs and then sleeping inside his warm, moist body like in Star Wars is probable. Is it not?

Any and all former presidents are paid as though they are still president, because(and here the scary thing)may be called back into service...I.E. Ambassadors, Envoys, and other jobs that involve him talking to heads of state. I'm not really sure if I want that goober talking to anyone who can fire a missle in our direction. Besides...he's got to be sitting pretty with all the damn kick backs he must of gotten for keeping the oil companies rolling in da cash. He was backed by big oil companies from Tx during his whole political career.

Personally....I think he should be euthanized to put him out of my misery.

Try harder.

The President is paid $400,000/year (plus various expense amounts) while in office and $191,300/year (plus office space/staff/etc) after leaving office.

Thats because Mr. Clinton pushed a raise through for the sitting presidents. The retirement for a former president can change. It has something to do with what is cabnet is paid. So I'm not sure where you got your numbers....and it's not $400k, it's $390k.

That might help....I tried harder. How about you? If you correct someone....make sure YOU are correct.

You're out of date. That was true in 2001. Check Title 3 of the U.S. Code Section 102 entitled Compensation of the President

http://uscode.house.gov/uscode-cgi/fastweb.exe?getdoc+uscview+t01t04+11165+0++%28%29%20%20AND%20%28%283%29%20ADJ%20USC%29%3ACITE%20AND%20%28USC%20w%2F10%20%28102%29%29%3ACITE%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20

If the link doesn't work, go to http://uscode.house.gov/ click on the link for Search, on the second line enter Title and Section.

actually...if you check the date of the ammendment. This was put AFTER the ammendment you are refering too. So the site that you directed me too is older than the information that I posted

Your info: -->1999<-- - Pub. L. 106-58 substituted "$400,000" for "$200,000".

My Info: Effective -->Jan. 1, 2001<--, the salary of the president of the United States was increased to $390,000 per year including a $50,000 expense account. Any unused amount of the $50,000 expense account is returned to the Treasury.

The increase came as part of the Treasury Department appropriations included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2001 and signed into law by President Clinton on Dec. 21, 2000.

"For compensation of the President, including an expense allowance at the rate of $50,000 per annum as authorized by 3 U.S.C. 102, $390,000: Provided, That none of the funds made available for official expenses shall be expended for any other purpose and any unused amount shall revert to the Treasury pursuant to section 1552 of title 31, United States Code: Provided further, That none of the funds made available for official expenses shall be considered as taxable to the President." -- as printed in the Congressional Record, December 15, 2000 (Vol. 146, No. 155).

A similar increase in presidential salary was rejected by Congress in 1999.

so again....if you are going to correct someone...be correct yourself. Read the information throughly before posting it. I have nothing better to do at my job of being an IT tech to look up sites like this.
