That's a lot of caps. Whenever I read caps the voice in my head reads it in a screaming fashion.

Too bad it's not too cold to snow yet.

Usually up at college it'd get well below zero and it would stop snowing. The air was too cold to hold any moisture to let it snow.

That's the best time of winter. About two foot of snow on the ground, roads are clear because it hasn't snowed in a while, and it's about -20 to -10 (F) outside, leaving it too cold to gather anymore snow, and the stuff that is on the ground remains solid and doesn't get all wet and slippery.

Not too bad at the moment. The wind was pretty crappy earlier. On a plus note, I finished my shopping today. We stepped into the east side mall and walked the ten feet to the entrance of Barnes and Noble. Looking down the mall corridor, I was reminded of cows making their way down the chute at a factory farm.

Kohl's was also full of fucking morans. Seriously, why do I always get stuck behind three to four full shopping carts when I'm buying a gift card with cash and nothing else?

I rarely worry about my husband when he's out plowing, but I'm worrying tonight. It's coming down too fast for the road crews to keep up. Internet and phone have been down most the day...they back for the moment. Smiley: smile

It's 6 degrees Fahrenheit (that's -14.4 to you evil Celsius using folk) at the moment. Fairly strong winds too. I'm glad I don't have anywhere I need to go today or might have put a jacket on or something.

No snow here, but it's about 9 degrees out there. This is the first time we've hit single digits since the early 90's.

But like DSD's area, it's supposed to be up in the 50's and 60's for the rest of the week.

I feel your pain, Nexa.

We've got six inches of snow covered by half an inch of freezing rain covered by another six inches of snow.

The problem is, we get snow rarely enough (once, maybe twice a year in the Portland Metro area) that no one is equipped for this sort of thing. The city shuts down at half an inch. The major freeways and large surface streets get plowed, but you're on your own on residential streets. They use sand, but rarely salt and certainly not the sort of de-icer that works at lower temperatures.

Which basically means we're house-bound.

actually this all started over a week ago. Last Sunday the roads were pretty impassable. Monday they could be driven upon, but not really well enough for Mr. Ambrya to make it into work. Tuesday he went into work while Tristan and I went slowly stir-crazy at home. Wednesday Tristan and I got out a bit for a while during a window before it was supposed to get bad again. Then it turned out it wasn't going to get bad after all--it warmed up, actually, so we got to go out on Thursday and Friday. Saturday we stocked up on groceries because it was once more getting bad, and that was the last time we left the house.

I'm from Michigan. In Michigan, there are snow-plows and salt trucks that get used even on residential streets. In Michigan, you don't become a shut-in over a few inches of snow and ice. Here, Tristan's working himself up to a good old-fashioned case of cabin fever and my patience is wearing thin. And it's quite likely our Christmas plans are going to be postponed because the forecast doesn't indicate it will start to thaw until Thursday or Friday, which means my in-laws won't be able to make it over for dinner, even though they only live a mile away. If it clears up a little, we might be able to go pick them up, but it's questionable.

Yeah. Not loving the winter thing.

We ended up with 19 inches of new snow (on top of the ten we got earlier last week).

... at least it's nice light, fluffy stuff.
