Beware the Moon!

Quote:

Earth set for full moon close up

A full moon is set to occur closer to the Earth on Friday evening than it has done for the past 15 years.

The Moon's elliptical orbit means its distance from the Earth is not constant.

It will be a little over 350,000km away as it passes over the northern hemisphere, which is about 30,000km closer than usual.

If the sky is clear it will appear brighter and lighter than usual, say astronomers.

Closest path

Friday's full moon could appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full moons this year, Nasa said.

I'm looking at it right now and it's almost as big as a Big Pizza Smiley: pie

Beautiful! Smiley: nod

I saw the moon on the way into work this morning, it was huge. Then it disappeared behind clouds. :/

Doubt we'll see it with all the fog, rain, sleet and snow in the sky. None the less, I intend to find some craziness.

The last two weeks, my walk out from my office to my car after work has rewarded me with an awesome view of the growing moon slipping away to the south, flanked by the brilliantly twinkling Mars and Venus.

Off topic but seeing Nobby post reminded me. I had a dream with Nobster in it last night. He wanted to take me out on a date and I felt bad because I couldn't understand a word he was saying with his English speak. He kept asking me when I was going to be ready for our date and I kept thinking there is no way I'm going out with Eric Clapton.

I hope it's clear enough to see; I love moon gazing. I saw Jup. and Ven. flanking the moon rather spectacularly...last week I believe.

As an aside, think of how many people wouldn't be able to tell you what phase the moon is at any given time and which direction it waxes and wanes.

Well things cleared up a bit and there were high, thin clouds racing across the face of the moon. It looked damn amazing, like a scene out of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Allakhazam

...er, Azkaban.

The large full moon reflecting off of the crisp white snow last night was beautiful.

Well, the snow isn't very fresh and crisp anymore, but I remember it as if it was. I love you, Moon.

And lucky me for not having to work at the restaurant last night - full moons always make the drunks a little crazier.

Umm, no, not sure at all. I can recognize the Venus twinkle. Mars was purely speculation. I was only pretty sure it was a planet versus a star.

..as I feared, there was no seeing the moon last night. Tonight it should be visible.

Yeah, it's Venus an Jupiter, a few weeks ago they were in equilateral alignment with the moon. Pretty spectacular.

Wait, what?

When walking back to my barracks from the Chinese vendor, I saw the moon , I did think to myself that it was oddly larger than before. It was neat.
