As some of you may or may not recal, I tend to occasionally get really really bad migraines. About 1/3rd of these are caused by sinus related issues, and i've been trying to get an appointment since early september. Well, today I finally got it, and the phrases "be careful what you wish for", and "adding insult to injury" have never had more meaning to me.

So I get in there, they look in my ears with the thingies, apperently find a misplaced hair growing out of one eardrum that shouldn't be there, which they remove (which ******* HURT!, but thats not the worst part). Eventually the doctor decides "ok, now we need to look into your sinuses." and proceeds to put a fiber optic endoscope with a ******* 2 FOOT LONG probe on the table.

Now I realize that stories on the internet are prone to exageration, but please be assured that when I say 2 FOOT LONG, I mean 24 inches.

After squirting some goo on it, that resembles ultrasound goo, and spraying some "numb all your sinus crap except it didn't work" crap. He then proceeded to ram the entire ******* thing into my left nostril.

OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Then he did the right one.

It really, really, really ******* hurt!

My head has been violated. I don't think I will ever be the same. I live in abject terror of the next time I might sneeze.

What the hell did I ever do to deserve this?

A guy I work with has a cyst somewhere between his eye and his brain. He cannot smell anything. He's going in for exploratory surgery through his nose to find it. He gets 2 months off of work, it's not fair.

Apperently they think the problem now might be my jaw, specifically the part that attaches to my head. That has always made kind of ratcheting popping noises when i open or close it since I was a kid. I thought that was normal. Apperently it isn't and they think problems with that might be causing the swelling that blocks the eustaton tubes.

Do you ever open your jaw and suddenly like one side of the thing goes POP and it opens a bit wider than normal and is all scratchy? Happens to me sometimes :(

What kid of migraines do you get? Spinny flashy lights with partial blindness? I haven't had doctors look into it too closely but I'm wondering if mine are sinus related or if I have a fetus twin (triplet?) lodged into my brain acting like a tumor.

I get the aura (spinny flashy lights) for about 1 minute before the migraine actually hits, then a few minutes with nothing, then intense pain, similar to that of being stabbed (which I unfortunatly have a direct reference for) I usually lose a portion of my vision for a few hours, but it is odd, like part of my forward vision just becomes a blind spot. If i look at a monitor, I'll only see 3/4ths of it, but the rest of the image stithces itself together like that part of the monitor just doesn't even exist.

Really annoying

I get the aura, but no migraines. Weird, I know. I get the aura quite badly - as in, I'm kinda blinded for 15 mins or so until it passes. Smiley: frown

Kao you just describe my migraines to a T. I never thought that much about the fact I can't see the monitor clearly to the migraines, though as it seems to sometimes come without the stabbing pain in the corner of one or both of my eyes.

I had signs of TMJ for last few years since my migraines came back and so far it's been noted as often a side issue, like my IBS is since I have Fibromyalgia.

I'm still feel it's not fair that since I am on some medications that can be used for migraines sufferers I have to go without some of the better treatments and just hope I catch them early and Tramadol works on easing it some. popping Tramadol is for me, like extra strength Motrin is for most people.

Ye olde ice-pick to the eye. I know it well.

My migraines are mostly hormonal, though sometimes stress and lack of sleep plays a factor. I had a rather blissful two years with very few migraines while I was pregnant and while Tristan was small, but about six months ago they returned with a vengeance, and I can count on getting at least two in the third week of the month. If I can't manage to get some decent sleep when I have one, it can become a multi-day affair.

It's made me seriously give consideration to getting pregnant again. But since we can't afford endless children, I'm actually pondering surrogacy.

You know, if it stops the migraines, it might be worth it. Mine are relitivly infrequint thankfully, and can be triggered by lighting conditions, stress/lack of sleep or weather. having hormonal triggers too would probably drive me insane.

I get the exact same thing Smiley: frown

The first times I got the "aura", I was really seriously freaked out. It's like someone made an incision into my retina with a scalpel, and then proceeded to drip some acid drops into it.

Not half as fun as it sounds.

When did it start for you? Did you always have it or did it start as a result of something? I'm curious because I'm quite sure mine is a result of a head injury.

I hope you actually get migraines so you know what kind of a **** you are.

My migraines are also rather infrequent and I've learned to deal with them pretty well. It's interesting to drive home in heavy 80-mph traffic when you can't see what you're looking at.

The first one I was 18-19. I don't think it happened after anything specific, like an injury or too much drugs. I used to have these attacks once a year or so, and then it was once every few months, and now it's almost once a month, sometimes more. My mum has really serious migraines, so I figured that was where they came from. They often come when I'm knackered, after exercise or a long day at work. And yeah, I just have to rest and close my eyes for 15-30 mins, and they disappear. And then i get a tiny headache, but barely noticeable.

It's pretty psychedelic, sometimes. Like a very tiring rainbow inside my retina.

Yeah--chasing after a rambunctious toddler while you can barely see and feel nauseous and are in mind-splitting pain is just a whole lot of fun. And the family of migraine drugs that started with Imitrex doesn't work for me--well, it DOES work, in that it gets rid of the headache pain, but then I spend the next five hours prostrate with heart palpitations and dizziness and cold sweats essentially feeling like I'm going to die in the "holy sh'it, we might be calling an ambulance here soon" kinda way.

Sooo, I've got to resort to narcotics. Well, actually my doctor and I have a two-tier approach. I have a non-narcotic prescription that's known to work well for mild to moderate migraines that I'm supposed to take first, and if the headache is severe enough that it doesn't seem to be making an impact within a half-hour, then we hit the Vicodin. That usually also involves seeking some help with the kid because the chances are good that I haven't eaten because of the nausea and that as a result, I'm going to be pretty well stoned after taking it.

All in all, getting pregnant again to buy myself another year or two without this nightmare scenario isn't all that far-fetched.

I get really bad migraines from various things, seems my allergies play a huge part. (remember Allanois anyone?) I had one dr suggest surgery, and it did NOTHING for me, but remove like one layer of smell sense from me, which pisses me off because I am a smell person. I won't kill myself like the lead singer of INXS, but not smelling certain things sucks. However I smell other things even stronger now, menstrual women walking by, horrid hazelnut, and AXE <<< those things make me nearly puke, instant migraine, or cough my lungs up. It's like the things I like I can't smell as well, my perfume, my shampoo, roses.

Imitrex is evil, for those of us that it does not work on, you feel like you are dying. Your body is on fire worse than any sunburn you've ever had and you feel like your heart will burst right out of your chest, all the while your migraine is STILL there!!! I get demerol now. Only thing that works is drug + cold + dark + quiet and 2-4 hours sleep. Most of the time, I am now nursing one that is getting another dose of that regimen.

I started getting migraines really bad after my mom died. My doctor pretty much determined they were from PTSD since I'd never had them before. At their peak, I was having them 2-3 times a month, and I missed a lot of work as a result.

It's been four years since then, and thankfully they have become less and less frequent. I haven't had one in about six months. Smiley: nod

The horribly expensive migraine pills I took kinda sorta worked, but the best thing was a lot of sleep in a dark room with a pillow over my head.
