Poor poor airplane.
It's always sad to see one of the dreams of the sky end up impaled on the cold hearth of the world, never to chase the clouds again.
It had to be my favorite jet too. I love 18's. Contrary to this story, they really are wonderful aircraft that can take significant damage and still fly.
I am curious as to what kind of failure caused this plane to crash. I mean with it being a 2 engine plane, everything comes in pairs.
2 hydraulic systems, 2 engine systems, 2 auxiliary systems, 2 fuel systems, etc.
If one of the two systems fail, the other can carry the plane to safety quite easily. It just seems unlikely that both pairs of a system could fail.
Gbaji is right though, when you play with planes, crashes happen. Oh, and the pilot may not have even got the choice to eject, the systems on the f-18 will eject the pilot automatically under specific circumstances as fighter gets can do G's that will render anyone unconscious (Or so I'm told, I'm a engine/fuel/auxiliary systems tech, I don't mess with the ejection system). If a dual system failure happened, this could lead to said parameters being fulfilled and being ejected.
