Did you see the time travel, Wii Episode of South Park?

Religion or not, people will find some difference to fight about.

True, i'd rather fight over science than something made up to make money/controll the masses though.

Why the hell is it every time religion gets brought up around here people need to stab and beat it to death? The main thing I always hear from atheist is how they "don't want that religious crap and shoved down their throats", but then I come and read posts like Nilatai's and realize how @#%^ing hypocritical these people are.

I see, easily, way more people bashing on religion then anything else on these boards, and it's complete bullsh*t when one of the main points that atheists try to make is that they don't want other peoples beliefs pushed on themselves.

Not mine.

I find their decision to use medievel superstitious belief as a guide for their lives in the face of all evidence and observation as the main point for ridicule.

That, and their self-righteous assertations that the rest of us rational folk are going to burn in hell.

You clearly don't read this Board very often them.

We have God bashing threads once every 6 months or so to let our hair down, our meat and drink is Bush, the illegal invasion of Iraq and DsD's baby factory.

This is horrible and yet I'm still lost as to why its happened. What motivated them to stage these attacks? Smiley: confused

Because there are Muslims in the world who truely hate anything not muslim just as there are BNP voters who genuinely hate anything not white.

It's wise to understand that while also understanding that Muslim extremeists are no more a representation of Islam than the BNP is representation of middle England.

Personally, I find hard core religious fanatics and militant atheistic pseudointellectuals equally annoying. Both proclaim "Believe as I do or you're a fool". Both bemoan how everyone should be allowed to hold their own beliefs, as they inundate the rest of us with their own opinions that they peddle as "facts".

There is zero empirical data that can be offered as proof that a God does or does not exist. Both sides would do well to acknowledge that little fact.

As for the Terrorists, I don't blame religion. Religion is just an excuse, a justification. They do this horrific crap because they are worthless, fanatical, murderous pieces of maggot ****.

Yeah religion has nothing to do with. People just wake up one morning and decide;
"I know I'll go on a murderous rampage with my buddies. But we need something to justify it. If they won't accept my way of interpretting quantum physics and natural selection then they are going to regret that."
How many atheists, academics, or pseudointellects for that matter, collectively band together to enforce with violence their theory of the big bang or that it was a grasshoppers jump not a butterflys wing flap in the Amazon that caused that cyclone?
Geez now I'm ranting but at least my ravings aren't likely to stir up a maniacal fervour that will result in bloodshed.
So on the face of it & with the EVIDENCE at hand, I come to the personal conclusion that religion IS the driving force and excuse of those terrible actions of the few in Mumbai. I don't blame all Muslims (or christians for that matter) but without education the lower end of the socio-economic scale will fall prey to the ideals of a better life than the one they have. Even if that is the idea of an afterlife.

PS I do like critisising religion when it interrupts logic (intelligent design my *****
Also the examples given are just that, examples. I'm not bright enough for anything deeper.

No you're right it takes years of indoctrination by Imam's filled with hate.

Muslim extremism has everything to do with religion, that it's a good religion twisted and warped in such a degree that it no longer resembles it's true message doesn't mean it's not about religion.

In my mind that would still fall under religion being used as a justification/excuse. Not all Muslims are murderous bastards. Nor all Christians or Jews or atheists. You can unleash untold suffering on other Humans in the name of God or science but it still boils down to one thing in my mind. You're either a decent person or you're not. The justification isn't the root cause.

Agreed. However, many of those shades of gray are nothing more than utter ********* Sometimes there does come a point where a decision must be made one way or the other. Good or bad, yes or no, innocent or guilty. I'd never advocate these decisions be made in a vacuum, but being able to strip away the nonessential BS is imperative.

Ted Bundy wasn't a decent person. Oversimplification? I don't think so.

Depends on who you ask. I'm pretty sure the relatives of the innocent civilians he murdered aren't overly thrilled he received a Nobel Peace Prize. As you said, the World isn't black and white, but I bet they only see it one way.

The world is clearly black and white. Ted Bundy was white and Nelson Mandela is black. Oversimplification? I don't think so.
