So, since this is essentially a Friday for some of us, whatcha got going on?

Sorry to step into your tarritory Tare, (HAH get it?) but I am nosey and curious what everyone has going on, and what is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Me: too many damn places to go and why don't people understand that when they call you two days before and invite you over and you say no, it's not to make them sad...

PUMPKIN PIE, I wait all year for this!

Kao, I am still waiting for you to create that pumpkin pie cake desert treat thingy for me... yeah get on that.

Sounds like I'll be changing it up this year, heading over to a buddy's and his wife's place. It should be a fairly decent sized gathering of friends. We'll likely watch some football, get stuffed, and perhaps take in some beverages.

As for food, I'm not picky. I do like pie, and it seems like the only time I bother eating it is during the holidays, so I'll vote that way.

Since I'm normally in charge of the deserts I've decided to forgo tradition and try something new. Normally we have Squash and pecan pies but the Squash didn't come in this year. This year I'm going to try my hand at a Shoo-Fly Pie and going to do something different with the Squash/Pumpkin (maybe a cheesecake or a Creme Brulee?).

Anyone have any ideas with a different pumpkin application?

Not a dessert, but This pumpkin recipe has proven very popular based on the PMs I've had about it.

My brother is driving over with his puppy to spend turkey day over here. The kids are excited mostly for the puppy, which is a 110 lb rotti named Lokei. Sweetest dog evah. The sibling wants to try and fry a turkey this year. if he can find a fryer we'll try it out. Very very casual turkey day Smiley: smile

I'm having some sort of crazy Maine thanksgiving, which I assume will consist of lobster, pine cones, and red hot dogs.

Boston Waiter: Your lobster bib sir
Nobby: Don't even think about it
Boston Waiter: Oh but sir. It's a Boston tradition
Nobby: Want to see a traditional British choke-hold?
Boston Waiter: . . . . as you wish sir

You should fry the puppy! A drumstick each and loads of room for yummy stuffing. Its full of win!

Lobster bibs are great!.It's like being 2 all over again, but this time fully conscious. You're actually allowed, nay, encouraged to make a horrific and murderous mess of your lobster, in most explosive fashion possible.

Ray wants a private meal with just me and the kids. So cooking a turkey (need to make my brine tonight to soak it tomorrow), ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, corn on the cab, cornbread stuffing, and either a sweet potato casserole or just baked sweet potatoes. New York style cheesecake and pumpkin pie are the desserts.

And then after that, we get to go to my cousin's house and have the family get-together where there will be turkey, ham, standing rib roast, lobster, lots of different Filipino foods and some really crappy desserts (Filipinos just do not know how to make baked goods.

I'm looking forward more to the leftovers (turkey dumpling soup made with the leftover stuffing, turkey hash, pork fried rice).

I baked some sherpherds pie with half and half mashed pumpkin/potato. Turned out great!

Ditto. Gonna try that.

I did Cottage pie (beef instead of lamb) with parsnips & potato. That was scrummy

I used beef, I rarely cook with lamb actually.

I tried cutting strips of pumpkin and seasonning them then dumping them in the oven a la zuchinni but that was meh. I usually serve that with a good steak and rice, with some fresh salad. The pumpkin, however, was almost flavourless prepared like that.

..and Moxie to drink.

I'll be having a Maine T-day too:)

Same as last 15 years. We go to my sister-in-laws, a couple hours Downeast. ALL in the car by noon so we can turn up the radio to BMX's annual airing of the full 21 minute version of Alice's Restaurant. We'll sing along badly but without my daughter joining in this year:(

What time do they air it? I can never remember...it's always hit or miss as to whether I hear it, haha.

Me and the wife and the munchkin are going upstate, first to my mom's for the morning then we all go over to my brother and his fiancee's (and her daughter and their twins) for dinner. At some point I got roped in to stopping at a friend's (not mine) on the way hither or yon to check out her computer.

We are (errr, my wife is) making pumpkin cheesecake and apple crisp pie and garlic bread. She also, by request, made me a chocolate cake tonight. We only had a large pan to make it in so she used two boxes of cake mix and this thing is big enough to land F-14s on!
