I would like a real solution.

There isn't one. There's incremental change, and maybe in 30 generations there will be something approaching equity among all people. Also, drinking helps.

To make a long story short, I don't take any responsibility for anything I post here. It's not news, it's not truth, it's not serious. It's parody. It's satire. It's bitter. It's angsty. Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

You'll always be older, so there's that to cling to. Also, taller. Also, also, this isn't me being pretentious. Me being pretentious would involve me quoting Lyotard then feigning surprise when someone didn't recognize it.

The US Federal personal income tax structure currently looks like this:

0-$7550 - 10% (with earned income tax exclusion for the poorest)
$7551-%30,650 = 15%
$30,651-$74,200 = 25%
$74,201-$154,800 = 28%
$154,801-$336,550 = 33%
$336,550 and above = 35%

The tax laws, though, are loaded with exemptions (which favor the wealthy) and sprinkled with tax credits (more favorable to lower incomes) and various other loopholes. With a good tax lawyer or accountant many of the wealthy will end up paying much, much less than their 35%.

I'd like to see US tighten up it's codes and perhaps add an additional bracket at the top end.

Ouch. Even people who only earn the Brit equivilent of $3,300 a year get taxed to the tune of 10%? What, was Ebeneezer Scrooge unavailable for the job of tax man and so the gubbmint couldn't bring themselves to extort the additional 90% it'd take to snatch every shilling the poor has in their pocket?

Wow.

On the other end of the spectrum, 45% would be enough for me to consider tax evasion.

Double wow.

These figures are for federal taxable income. A married couple filing jointly (only male-female couples, regardless of whether state law recognizes same sex marriages) has a standard deduction of $10,900 and personal exemptions of $3500 each (2008 rates).

So for a married couple with no dependents filing jointly and using only the standard deduction, the first $17,900 is tax free. Amounts of taxable income above this level apply the marginal tax rates above.

That was the shorthand. We are all allocated a Tax allowance based on age, marital status etc, below which we're tax exempt. A standard person's allowance is £6,035, (£9K for over 65's) so anything up to that amount is tax-free.

Dig?

Ahhh. I figured you Brits to be more enlightened as to the crushing of the poor's hopes and dreams than to out-'n'-out snuff them before their very eyes.

Mehh. Those on low incomes (say £15K or so) pay little tax, pay nothing for healthcare (even prescription charges are waived), kids get free school meals, and you get a ******** from the Queen every other birthday.
