Will the Lizard People rule collectively?Follow

I can say, with absolute certainty that none of those ballots are mine. I clearly urinated within the circle. I don't know how these people could ***** up so badly that they marked on them with a writing utensil. It's as if they were trying to ***** up.

Not precisely.

You can go ahead and assume that when I am talking about "rules" that I mean some law that is on the books, and you'll be arrested if they aren't followed, if it makes you feel better

Furthermore, I already gave a reason that you have chosen to ignore. A reason that I think was a bit more practical than your personal annoyance reason.

Yet from the time I answered your question:

What is your problem with the extra marks? Do you think it is some sort of attempt at voter fraud?

You did nothing but say I have no reason, and when I explained my reason, your response was "Ya, well it's the law, that's why it's right".

This is tiresome and a microcosm of why I rarely post anymore. There's no real joy or benefit in tediously explaining things to random people on the internet.

It passes time. Either this for the hour before finally falling asleep, or watching TV/poking around in some random video game.

It's annoys me to see them have to question the intent of the voter because some idiot circled the optical scanning block on the edge of the paper rather than spend the time to read the instructions and fill in the bubble.
The real issue with that one is that we have no idea if the person knows how the blocks actually correspond to bubbles (in which case he was being a wiseass, and was voting for someone other than Al Franken) or he was just a dumbass.

Using a thesaurus is perhaps the dumbest way to argue semantics.

Really, if intent can easily be seen, it should count; extending the vote to as many people as possible is a cornerstone of our political system. To blindly follow protocol without consideration for the consequences is moronic, as it easily disenfranchises those who make the tiniest of mistakes. If you see politicians saying that mere fingerprint smudges count as a proof of intent, what do you think they'll do when it's that much easier to discount a vote for the opposition due to something as mundane as a stray pencil mark? If this protocol is enacted to the degree that you wish, you can definitely believe that the volunteers working for oppositional political parties will comb through as many ballots as possible and attempt to silence the voices of those who disagree with them. Without any leeway in this many will be left out of the political process. Do we really need more ways to abuse the system? No discretion, right?

I dunno, sometimes you get this entrancing sense of superiority, it can be quite positive for your self-worth.

Anyway, I enjoy your posting, it's usually to the point, amusing, and slighy ascerbic, if anything you should post more really.

I like Tricky's posting because he brings up long-forgotten (by me) posts, arguments and gaffes that make me laugh. He's like my very own outtake editor.

I am humbled because these are all exactly the points I was attempting to imply, when I should have simply explied them in the first place.

Yes, I just invented verb exply, why not?

Not precisely.
Rules are usually mandated - with some punishment for non-compliance. Guidelines are voluntary. Directions are simply disseminating information (often times for CYA purposes).

edit; oops I was a whole page behind.

Hmm, I'm tempted to go find my copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and quote a long portion in which Ford Prefect explains the voting system of another planet to Arthur just before watching a stolen copy of Casablanca. I'm too lazy to do that right now though.

I used to peruse a conspiracy theory website on occasion, and the forums they linked for discussion of the invasion of the lizard people are hysterical. Sometimes, literally hysterical.

They like to take digital pictures of people they believe are lizard people, and perform weird filters on them and scour them for further "evidence." Its completely bizarre.

I don't know quite what to say here. I decided to contribute by looking for an amusing picture of a lizard person, so I typed "lizard people" into Google and hit the Images link and got... well, this:

I don't care that it's shooped. I just want to know why it came up as an image of "lizard people".
