Batman! Is getting sued!

By the way, before I bring this fascinating and potentially life-changing story before your tearful eyes, I just wanna say "sorry" about all this silly threads I'm making today. I didn't sleep much last night, what with Wotlk coming out, and my neighbour receiving a brand new batch of green, and it's almost the week-end, so I'm feeling pretty tired and stupid, which you might is not that different from usual, and you might be right, unless you're gbaji, in which case I politely disagree. ****! Only kidding. Anyway, where was I...

Ah yeah, this dude

Quote:
From the Joker to the Riddler, Batman has grappled with his fair share of adversaries. Now he faces possibly his most bizarre enemy: the pro-Kurdish mayor of a city called Batman in south-eastern Turkey, who is claiming a stake in the multimillion-dollar franchise.

Christopher Nolan, who directed the caped crusader's latest big screen escapade The Dark Knight, and the studio, Warner Bros, face the wrath of Huseyin Kalkan, Batman's mayor, who is suing them for film royalties for using the city's name without permission. "There is only one Batman in the world," Mr Kalkan reportedly said. "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."

Mr Kalkan, who received a 10-month jail sentence at the beginning of this year for praising a Kurdish rebel leader, says the film's psychological impact on Batman inhabitants is to blame for a number of unsolved murders and a high female suicide rate. Former natives of Batman are also said to have encountered obstacles when attempting to register their businesses abroad.

Well, I think this dark-faced crusader is ******* insane. But if he wins, I'm suing Paris, Texas. And maybe New-York too, cos it has given York a pretty bad name over the years, what with all the gangs and murders and Donald Trump.

Or did they? I thought Dr Evil was, in fact, the twin brother of Austin powers, and therefore son of Micheal Caine?

Dunno though, my Austin powers lore knowledge is a bit sketchy.

He was Austin's brother, but he was raised by Belgians. Eeeeevil Belgians.

Quote:
Dr. Evil: The details of my life are quite inconsequential.
Therapist (Carrie Fisher): Oh no, please, please, let's hear about your childhood.
Dr Evil: Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my ********** There really is nothing like a shorn *******, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
Therapist: You know, we have to stop.

I like how they wait for a Batman movie to make oodles of cash before suing for the improper use of the name 'Batman'.

Why didn't they sue over Batman and Robin? Smiley: laugh

I quite like the "In Bruges" joke about Belgium: it's only known for two things: chocolate and child molesters. And they only made the chocolate to get to the children. Smiley: grin

Something like that anyway.

I'm guessing it's not pronounced quite the same in their native tongue. In which case, the issue isn't with using the same name, it's with the vagaries of English romanization.

I thought this was gonna be an au revoir Bush thread, as in
"Na na na na,
na na na na,
Hey hey,
goodbye..."

I admire your tact and restraint, Red. By-the-by, how's ol' Sarkozy workin' out for ya?

:D
