I know quite a few people who hooked up and married the love of their life via the net or games so it's not uncommon. My Eq2 guild is also filled with a lot of couples, married folk, who play together the way the Mr and I do. I do think there is a much higher ratio of needy people who jump too son into relationships via games, but it's definitely not all of them.

Wonder how many compared to the number of guys who play females to farm for in-game stuff.

It's interesting, though. In my EQ guild we had three couples who met in-game (one chick dumped her previous boyfriend in the process; boy, was that awkward. Luckily he played a paladin so no great loss when he quit playing), and one real-life attention ***** who traveled the country fUCking guild mates and getting them to give her stuff.

Good times, good times.

For a second I missed that you said EQ and thought you said WoW, I was going to ask who that was Smiley: laugh

The bed-hoppin guild mate didn't happen to go by the name of Elli did she? We had one of those in DAoC, she about broke up the guild before we found out that IRL she was this fat whale of a woman who worked at her local newspaper. She'd led one guy on our guild on and right before he was to go see her, she broke it off. Only to find out she'd been cybering with another guild mate who was paying for her game, her in game gold, giving her items and so forth, then she moved on to the third guy because he'd actually pay for her cell phone, her internet, her game, ect ect. He DID get to go see her, said he flew home the next day because he could fit his whole self in one pants leg of her jeans. We had quite a bit of fun posting pictures of her for the longest while.

All jokes aside, I'll say this: The woman has a valid point about her husband being engaged in emotional infidelity. Whether that would amount to anything in a court of law is another matter, but I'd agree with her that he was cheating on her.

No. Smiley: laugh

She was actually kinda cute, not a traffic-stopper but okay. Aside from the three kids by different fathers, all apparently in the custody of whichever state they'd been born in, and the reek of desperation and stale *****.

I actually agree with Totem, dammit. Smiley: glare

If the husband had been playing "The Sims," that'd be a fantasy. In "Second Life," it was another person he was engaging with.

I think those needy people exist everywhere, and it's just when they play on-line games and it happens it garners media attention. I know quite a few people personally that fit that mold.

Yeah, it's cyber sex. Whether it be second life or via a chat program or even over the phone, the introduction of another real person elevates it from simple ************ (SIMS, Blow-up dolls etc).

I think I, too, would consider it a breach of my marriage vows.

Slippery slope, Belkira, slippery slope. Next thing you know, you'll own two poodles and start working in Africa. Once you break your grip on reality and lose traction, it's a quick slide down into the Abyss.

:/

Be careful there working on the edge of Cliff Agreement with me. Some of those rocks are loose.

One of the reasons I stopped playing FFXI, when I initially stopped, was because I had a fifteen year old kid obsessively messaging me b/c he wanted to either cybor or talk about "My Chemical Romance." He'd tell me, "Age is nothing but a number." I'd be like, "*****, I'm old enough to be your mom. Age is more than a number."

Either way, I don't know if I'd want to hook up with the people I've met online but I have seen draaaama that was very real, intense and fraught with ******** as the real life thing.

Only one time in all the years I've been playing MMO's has someone 'made a virtual move' on me. He was a kid too. He knew my age, knew my husband (who was playing EQ with me at the time). He lived in florida and kept trying to set up a meeting. I booted him from our guild and went anon for awhile. Never heard from him again.

I actually get hit on more often irl.

Lol, when I played EQ long, long ago and when it first started, I threw off my initial internal resistance to playing female characters. Almost immediately in this Brave New World guys would come on to me and begin cyboring. My son and I, lanning in the same room, would laugh and laugh as I worked them for free gold, exp, and ph4t lewt. Given my innate abilities with the written word, these boys thought they had somehow landed a Pet who regularly wrote to Penthouse Letters.

And the funny thing was, I never actually was explicit or detailed. I just implied stuff, talked around the edges, and hinted about what I looked like and these guys would literally offer me access to their accounts, passwords, etc.

Eventually it got old and I told them I was a fat balding middle aged man playing EQ in my tighty-whiteys down in my Mom's basement. I got a lot of these...

O.O

Pretty funny at the time.

I know I've told the story before but you young whippersnappers can just sit through it again.

An obvious young 'un was hitting on, or at least trying to hit on, my wood elf druid in EQ. He went on and on, using /say to give her compliments and emoting up a storm.

Finally I answered him, in /say: "It's really nice to hear that you think I'm so pretty. My wife is always after me to lose 30 pounds and give up cigars."

Never heard from him again; in fact, I never saw that character online again.

I've been flirted with and hit on a few times in game, always as male characters. I just played with their minds a bit till I got bored, then just told them to buzz off. I was never under the illusion that it was a female at the other end, just another Totem trying to get me to give them free stuff.

In fact... maybe it was Totem.

Seriously.

In all honesty, though, I like to cyb0r. It's been a hobby of mine for awhile, even. I start off by shouting in a town that I'm looking for an open-minded individual to roleplay as my daughter. I tell them that I'm a middle-aged dude whose daughter died in a car wreck recently. Then I roleplay a mundane dinner with them before gradually injecting some innuendo and inevitably getting horrifically graphic. Sometimes they ignore me, but sometimes, they play along. It's fun, you should probably all try it.

Oh, and my character's name in that screenshot is Avulva, and she's a girl, so there's nothing even a little bit ***** about me cybering with a toon called Brutiss.
