A bit of light relief from the intrepid and fascinating world of online geeks, of which we, as a community, know very little about. The things these people get up to... Crazy!

Quote:
As divorce cases go, it is as explosive and sordid as it gets: a woman catches her husband having sex with a prostitute, forgives him, but finally throws in the towel after discovering he has been unfaithful again. Yet absolutely none of it happened in real life.

Amy Taylor is divorcing David Pollard, her husband of three years, on the grounds of "unreasonable behaviour" after she discovered his character in the online community game Second Life had been having an affair.

It was the second time that Ms Taylor, 28, had caught her husband's virtual alter ego being unfaithful. Before they were married, she had once awoken from an afternoon nap to discover him sitting at his computer watching his online character – whom he had named Dave Barmy – having sex with an on-screen call girl.

She said: "I went mad – I was so hurt. I just couldn't believe what he'd done. I looked at the computer screen and could see his character having sex with a female character. It's cheating as far as I'm concerned."

Yeah. If I was the guy, I'd defend myself by saying this is no more than fantasy, like **** but with crappy graphics. He, on the other hand, chose to blame World of Warcraft:

Quote:
Mr Pollard, 40, admitted he had been having an online affair with a woman from America, and the pair's characters are now engaged in Second Life. But he insisted that his real marriage had been a "bit of a joke", and that his affair was prompted by his wife's addiction to the popular fantasy role-playing game World of Warcraft. He said: "I was having this online relationship with this girl in America. It was nothing really major, but then Amy found out about it and went mad, and said 'how could you do this, you *******?'

"Amy never did anything around the house. She just played World of Warcraft all the time. If I wanted to spend time with her I had to ask, but it was always too much trouble for her to come off the game to spend time with me, so the marriage was a bit of a joke."

Poor Amy. I wonder how she'll recover from it...

Quote:
Ms Taylor's love life has since moved on, but she does not seem to have learnt her lesson. She met her current boyfriend while playing World of Warcraft.

Gosh, I could never get my head around people meeting their loved ones online. What is the world coming to...

There was a thread at EQ2 Flames recently about two guildies that hooked up in real life, but the girl was married. Apparently, at one point this guy came to visit her, and her husband, and got to listen to them makin' sweet love while he hung out on the couch.

******** times.

Certainly meeting someone on-line is no better or worse than meeting in a grocery store or a bar. It's all circumstantial.

What bugs me is that some of these folks may already be a bit needy and they find themselves in these make-believe relationships that go far too far. Obviously. I just hate to hear the stories of families broken up by non-realistic expectations.

Mostly though I get a good laugh hearing about the drama of a bunch of, mostly, young adult nerds and the predicaments they find themselves in (warg on elf....ewwwwwww!!)

I hated trying to target a gnome in BGs. I'm sure they were cheating somehow.

My female Nelf would love some frustraculation from a female gnome.

I'm sure we could do it with both of us standing up, too.

Wonder how many compared to the number of guys who play females to farm for in-game stuff.

It's interesting, though. In my EQ guild we had three couples who met in-game (one chick dumped her previous boyfriend in the process; boy, was that awkward. Luckily he played a paladin so no great loss when he quit playing), and one real-life attention ***** who traveled the country fUCking guild mates and getting them to give her stuff.

Good times, good times.

Nah, we're all boring in my WoW guild. Well, except for the hot Eastern European chick who disappeared mysteriously and then reappeared, but it wasn't really her - it was her American boyfriend. Some of us were sure he'd done her in!

Then she came back for reals. Kind of a letdown, really.
