I highly doubt it...but it's still funny how hard they're making an effort.

White House Job Application Leaves No Stone Unturned

If you want to work for President-elect Barack Obama's administration, be prepared to spill almost everything there is to know about yourself.

As White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel will have a say in many of the new administration's hiring decisions.

The Obama transition team is sending a seven-page, 63-item questionnaire to every candidate for Cabinet and other high-ranking positions in the incoming administration.

The questions cover everything from information on family members, Facebook pages, blogs and hired help to links to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, American International Group and troubled banks as well as lawsuits, gifts, resumes, loans and more.

The transition team has about 7,000 positions to fill, according to the U.S. Government Printing Office's Plum Book, the quadrennial list of positions subject to presidential appointment.

Included are 15 Cabinet positions and nearly 200 ambassadorships as well as agency heads and their immediate subordinates, policy executives and advisers, and top aides to those officials.

The largest part of the questionnaire asks prospective White House appointees and their spouses to list real estate and other business transactions, affiliations and relationships as well as personal financial and tax information.

It also asks about writings, speeches, testimony, online communications and even personal diaries.

An entire section requests details on any criminal or civil legal action in which the applicant may have been involved. The last question in that 11-item section asks for details on any child support or alimony orders.

In an apparent effort to avoid the problems faced by several nominees in the last two administrations, a block of four questions is devoted to ferreting out details -- including the immigration status -- of any domestic help the applicant may have hired.

Question 61 seems to have been prompted by the controversy over former 1960s radical William Ayres in Obama's campaign: "Have you had any association with any person, group or business venture that could be used -- even unfairly -- to impugn or attack your character or qualifications for government service?"

Under the final, "Miscellaneous" category, the questionnaire asks for the names and phone numbers of past live-in lovers; whether anyone in the applicant's family owns a gun; the state of the applicant's health; and whether he or she has any enemies.

I guess I shouldn't bother to apply...half my family is nuts. They'd probably think I was a terrorist for having sponsored a marriage visa too.

They never offer the British dental during an economic crisis...don't take it personally.

Tangentially related, Obama is officially stepping down as senator on Sunday.

I'm going to put my money right now on Tammy Duckworth for Senator. When I'm wrong, you can come back here and mock me for it.

You're really willing to go out on a limb like that? I don't claim to be an expert in handicapping IL politics, but I do at least know who the players are now, as opposed to say, last week.

Sure.

Blagojevich likes her, she's on friendly terms with Blagojevich but without a machine politics feel to it, she's not about to buck the agenda, she has a story to sell (took the only combat position available to women in the Iraq War, lost her legs for it), generated national interest in her House run (and lost narrowly enough that it wasn't an embarassment), doesn't have a history to hold against her and has "downstate appeal" (i.e. she's not black) to help her keep the seat in 2010.

To be honest, I think that last one is going to put Jesse Jackson Jr. out of the running since the Democrats want to actually keep the seat two years from now. That and Blagojevich doesn't much like JJjr nor vice versa.

Besdes, it's not as though I'm wagering anything more here than my pride.

I know, was I too subtle with the "limb" and "handicap" thing?

Hopefully she wouldn't have too much contact with Biden as Senator...

The people that are amazed at this application have never applied for a classified security clearance.

This is not too surprising.

Yep. Though the internet and email things are new to me, but I haven't had to apply for a clearance since the 90's, so I'm sure that's commonplace now.

Nope, it'll be Emil Jones.

The pariah outcast that is Governor Blago, ultimately decides who our next Senator is and he hates Triple "J" a.k.a. Jesse Jr., and he is also not very fond of Duckworth right now because she's been limpin....ermm coddling up too much to Durbin, another Blago nemisis, through the V.A. thing.

While I agree with many in Illinois, that Duckworth would make an excellent Senator, Blago's ego and loyalties will impede his selection, the asshat thinks he's going to be either re-elected or running for a Senate seat in 2010.

We really should be putting money on, is if Patrick Fitzgerald is going to be retained by Obama and whether or not Governor Blagojevich becomes former Governor Ryan's cellmate.

Emil Jones would never get re-elected in 2010. Unlike Duckworth, he's an unabashed Blagojevich croney and he'd be crushed in the 2010 election. Further, Blagojevich needs Jones in the state Senate since that's his only firewall against Madigan in the House. There's no guarantee that the next president of the IL Senate would be as cozy with Blagojevich as Jones has been.

There's also the point that Emil Jones is old (73) and was going to retire from the state legislature anyway. I don't know that he'd want to start a career in Congress.

He wouldn't run for re-election, whoever gets Rod's blessing/appointment is fucking dead, guilt by associtation if all things pan out in the federal investigation and there are convictions. But Emil can help Blagojevich cockblock the Madigans, as in Attorney General Lisa Madigan, daughter of his arch nemisis Michael Madigan as you mentioned, by forcing her in 2010 to decide between running for Governor against Blagojevich or for the Senate seat.

However, if all things work out for Rod, and he isn't convicted, appointing Emil helps him. Because it will guarantee the black vote, coincedentally his strongest supporters in public opinion polls, in what would most certainly be a brutal democratic primary.

So he's hedging his bets and yes he is that delusional.

Personally I'm with you, Duckworth would make a fine replacement for Senator in Illinois, but it's in HairBrush Rod's hands and nobody is more vain or in denial in our state politics than the well coiffed one.

Lisa Madigan will run for governor. There's not even a question there.
