Without emotion, your side doesn't have a leg to stand on

I find it funny that people be concerned with some woman's lumps of cells at all. If you want to agree those lumps of cells are not yet a human, the reasons for destroying them are irrelevant.

Edit for clarification. The first quote is on the topic of gay marriage (Im pretty sure), while the second is abortion. I put a line between them:D

I enjoy handling certain "lumps of cells" that belong to a certain woman, thank you very much.

And if given enough time that fully functioning adult will die of old age.

What's your point?

You could, you know, actually respond to joph's counter argument rather then just ignoring it and talking about ****'s.

If that's too much for you, you could at least recognize the legitimacy of the emotional side. That's not the same as, God forbid, admitting you could be wrong, but it is recognizing that love and marriage have too much emotion wrapped up in them to be divorced.

Either way, your one feeble point about marriage being utterly and solely for kids is not standing up well, and however many words you type nothing is going to change it. You ignore the counter arguments, because frankly your position is indefensible.

Xsarus, I think what he was trying to get across with that bit you quoted was that he really doesn't want to be arguing against what his actual beliefs are, hence the half-assed argument.

Maybe I'm just being optimistic, though.

So it's not okay to appeal to emotion for same-sex marriage, but it is okay to appeal to constant fear of nuclear attack by freedom-hating terrorists? Smiley: dubious

Yes, because if we let nuclear gays marry, the terrorists will win Powerball.

Pretty egotistical there Totem. How are you so sure the mind tricks are not yours, based in childhood religious brainwashing that human life is divine, begins at conception and, is given and taken only by some higher power?

I'm pretty sure you cannot argue that a fetus is not alive. It may not be considered a sentient being, but it's definitely alive.

You're both presenting vastly oversimplified and incredibly stale versions of each other's arguments. This is all totally irrelevant to the topic of gay marriage.

Which is why Elinda said human life, by which she means "is a person." The gametes are also alive, so what?

It's stupid that we're even discussing the semantics of it. Totem put it forward to divert the topic and Elinda jumped for the bait like some eager little left-wing trout.

Besides, what's your definition of human life?

Totem made a somewhat brash comment about the self manipulation of liberals and Elinda responded in turn with a similar statement. I don't see your issue with this.
zepoodle wrote:

When I hear the word human I think of of the biological definition: People, babies, fetuses, zygotes, gametes, the whole shebang. If it has **** sapien (sapien?)* DNA in it then it has human life.

*Let's not discuss that last term.

**** sapiens. Technically **** sapiens sapiens, but the only other subspecies, **** sapiens idaltu died out long ago.

And by your definition, your saliva, hair, and fecal matter all constitute human life.

Counter-trolling. The problem is that it doesn't work. You beat trolls by ignoring them..

Neither of you knows Totes or his relationship to this forum.

Yes, he trolls; but his trolling is backed up with a little bit of intelligence and (some) underlying serious thought. It is for the most part high-quality, provocative trolling.

Not so much when he saunters over and pokes the moogle-pokers, of course; but for the most part here.

wtf, my choices are totem, gbaji, or varus. It's pretty clear here who's gonna get my responses.

But gee, glad the experts are here to explain forum behaviors to us.

Yes, but you're professionally trained to deal with heavy-browed mongoloids like her. And god bless you for it, Anna. It's a nasty job, but someone has to do it.
