The earliest Bonds were about the Cold War German Communists, and they were easy to confuse with the *****, stylistically. Lots of snappy grey wool uniforms and jack-boots.

Actually, maybe the first Bond was about the ***** in the war. I'm feeling confused.

Dr. No was a German who had been raised by a Chinese crime syndicate. He looks very ****, especially with the mechanical hands, but he was working for Russia in the novel. The villains in the second film were SPECTRE assassins, who were politically unaffiliated terrorists in the films and ****-esque Soviets in the books, except I think the primary assassin was Irish.

Bond villains do get confusing.

Which was the early Bond movie, with Connery, that had the amazing older female ****/KGB-esque bad woman official, in the grey uniform? She had captured the heroine, and there were a lot of heavy Lesbian over-tones to those scenes?

Am I alone in having never watched a Bond film all the way through?

I seriously doubt it. A lot of the Bond movies in the middle were full of fluff. I think most people drifted in and out of most of them while they were channel-surfing for something to watch.

I saw the earlier ones a long time ago when I was little, and retained a strong affection for the Bond "universe". As a little girl I found it all rather marvellous and impressive.

I watch it religiously when Spike Network has their marathons during the holidays. I'm a fan of the older ones from the '60s and most of the Pierce Brosnan ones.

I secretly love the supercilious snotty upper-class Bonds*. The modern Craig version doesn't do it for me. But Triple XXX sure showed how far the Bonds had fallen behind in the special effects and action stakes. So I like that the Craig Bonds have stepped up their game in that area. I'm tending to feel like the Craig Bonds are a whole new phenomenon in their own right. It's not the same Bond.

That's not entirely a bad thing, the franchise had definitely gone down hill. Even though Brosnan was a rather good Bond pick. But he really wasn't supported by any decent scripts.

*One of my favourite book series of all time is the Lord Peter Whimsey detective novels.
