A teenage boy who ran away from home last month after his Xbox was confiscated has been found dead in Canada.

Brandon Crisp, 15, disappeared on Oct. 14 after his father forbade him from playing his video game console after becoming concerned about the teenager’s obsession with the online game Call of Duty 4.

Steve Crisp said he removed the Xbox 360 after his son’s behavior began to change. He said Brandon’s grades were slipping, he had started skipping school and stealing money.

Brandon fled his home on his bicycle and was last seen in a popular hiking and cycling path near Barrie, Ontario, north of Toronto.

A local newspaper and Xbox creators Microsoft offered a $50,000 reward and 1,600 volunteers searched the local area, but all they found was his abandoned bicycle with a flat tire.

Brandon’s body was found by hunters in a cornfield on Wednesday.

What a shame.

I feel bad for his dad. He was trying to be a good parent. Unfortunately, after taking away his kid's reason for existance, he failed to find him a healthier hobby to replace it :/

Shame he didn't just sulk like most teenagers do.

Guess he must be gutted that his parents will be wracked with guilt for the rest of their lives because of his stupid reaction to a justified punishment.

What was the cause of death? Exposure to the elements or was there foul play involved?

ETA: Thanks Tare, I read the article.

That's truly a shame. while I understand the father's reaction to his son's inability to balance his gaming habits, I think he could have taken a more active role in parenting before it got to the point where taking the game away completely was the only option.

If he was obsessed to the point where he ignored all other things in his life, including teenage socialization, then there may have been some other underlying issues in the situation and we are only hearing about the Xbox because it's an easy scapegoat.

i agree with this, there probley was another reason why he ran away but we'll never know i guess. it's a sad loss really for all we know he could have been some one who cured cancer and thats why we really need to become better parents in this day in age.

Well crap. I'm not going to let Thom play with anything other than small pebbles until after highschool. My son is not going to turn into a crazed gamer freak like his father! Or his mother!

Honestly, he probably won't if for no other reason than you are aware of how consuming games can be.

This case just seems an awful lot like a set of parents bought him the game/subscription and then allowed it to be the parent, essentially leaving him on his own, unsupervised. Had they been more proactive as parents by limiting playing time, perhaps participating with him... Well it may have never gotten to this point.

Too many parents let television and games take over, and then are surprised when things like this happen.

The kid, a teenager, ran away from home and managed to die in the wilderness because he couldn't play a video game.

I'm all for parental involvement in children's lives and all but I have a hard time saying the dad is really at fault here. The kid sounds like a world class dipshit.

"Likely died of hypothermia" says the latest. Ffs, if you're going to run away in a snit at least dress for the weather.

I'm finding Crysis a particularly useful training aid to survival should I ever find myself on a tropical island surrounded by North Koreans and assaulted by aliens. (The nano-suit is skewing my potential for success tho').

The kid was prolly playing the Sims tho', so its his own fault. Lightweight!

I don't agree that he was necessarily a "world class ************** Is it silly to run away from home because of a game? Perhaps, but one could argue that all the other reasons teens run away are silly as well (in our eyes, as adults) and yet they are no less valid in the eyes of a psychiatrist. There is more to that story than we can tell from that article, of that I am certain.

If that game was the ONLY thing in the child's life, he could very well have snapped when it was taken away. It's a shame that he isn't still alive, because the results of his therapy would be interesting indeed.

That's just stupid. Mourning his loss because he could have been something great. He could have just as easily grown up to be the first carrier and spreader of a mutated super virus, leading to the downfall of mankind.

The world feels nothing because of this single child's death. Thousands of others just like him die each day. The only difference here is that his stupidity is publicized for the lulz.

No, not "perhaps". Yes. The answer to "Is it silly to run away from home because of a game?" is "Yes".

Sad that he is dead, sure why not.

Now it has been oh almost 10 years now since I was 15, but something just strikes me as retarded. How do you die of Hypothermia at that age? I mean I remember being 15 and having at least the common sense to think "Well holy **** I'm freezing my *** off out here, let me go back home."

I just cant wrap my mind around it.

This is why parents need to be more like mine and make their kids go out and play as well as limit their access to video games and TV until they're older so that the kids won't grow up relying on a screen for entertainment.
