1. Socialism is red because it represents the blood of the workers. The ANGRY blood of the workers. Not sure why Conservatism is blue, something to do with the colour of the King, maybe? As for the US switching it round, it's something to do with TV in the 60s.

Interesting: according to wikipedia, prior to 2000, the election maps were colored blue/red, but were assigned arbitrarily. Sometimes Republicans were blue and Dems were red, sometimes vice-versa. Since 2000, they've been fixed at their current colors. I had never noticed that, 2000 being the first election I seriously followed.
