More election good news...

South Dakota's ban on abortion except in cases of rape and incest? Rejected.

Colorado's attempt to define life as beginning at conception? Rejected.

Washington's Death with Dignity Act? Passed, making WA the second state in the union to allow physician-assisted suicide for the terminally ill.

California's Prop 8? Well, last night I thought it was passed but this morning the news pages are still saying it's too close to call.

Ohh noes!! We cannot allow people to make choices for themselfes!!

Seriously, though, this is going to be a renaissance for human rights.

Also, MA decriminalized small amounts of pot, and Michigan passed a law allowing for medical use of marijuana.

I think what we're seeing here is the exact opposite effect of what happened in 2004. In 2004, Rove used issues like late-term abortion and gay marriage to prod the religious right to the polls, and they just happened to vote for Bush while they were there. This year, Obama spurred people to the polls in record numbers, where they just happened to vote on the liberal side of these issues while they were there.

Either way, very very cool.
