It's a new day for AmericaFollow

It really is.

I'm more than a little drunk, or as we say around these parts, hammered. That said:

This is a new day for America. A day of change where a nation of isolationist xenophobes overwhelmingly elected a black man to lead them. The greatest nation on Earth who for all her faults, has lifted a man to the highest seat of power who inspires, but who is not perfect, a young man who holds the promise of a new generation of Americans ready to impress their stamp upon the world. A nation who, with this choice, potentially breaks free of all of the growing pains of her youth. A nation who has transcended race, who has transcended the politics of personal destruction and who has, at last, come of age in the world.

The free people of the world should righteously rejoice today, for this man, this choice, has the potential to unite us as a planet. This man has the chance to tap into the greatness of America and elevate us, and the people of the world to a place where the hungry no longer starve, the sick no longer die for lack of wealth, and men and women no longer suffer because of their sexual orientation.

It won't be easy, of course. Change requires a fight. Our time is now, though. If you want to effect change, your job is not over tonight. Push, and peruse, and hold Obama to the standard we believe he can meet. Power corrupts, and this man is likely no exception, but the time is now. Your time is at hand. Make the most of it. I've waited my whole life for this moment, as has many of you, let us not squander it with lazy complacency. The world can be a vastly improved place in the next few years, but only if we relentlessly peruse what we know to be right. Only if we overwhelm the forces of bigotry with egalitarianism and logic.

Do not stop the fight. It is not over. Never stop, never settle. Your time is here, opportunity is knocking. Answer the door.

Unless you're Gabaji, of course. Then you're pretty much boned.

-Smash

I could make a equally

False.

The idea that you're equivalent to me in any way is laughable. I'm smarter, better looking, more charismatic, have a bigger cock, funnier, richer, have a hotter mate, and am superior in every possible way to you.

Also, I correctly ascertain the times to use "a" or "an", fuckstick.

This is a sad day for the politics and policies and values of America. I don't give two sh*ts what color the person is, but I damn well care what they stand for, their character, their values, their associations, their ideology. I don't want him as my Commander and Chief, you libs can cheer all you want, but to me and many others' in the military we are NOT happy.

But, really, keep on thinking as if hes the Messiah, everyone all ready knows that the MSM wants to @#%^ him all day and night and will give him a pass on everything.

His policies will lead America down the wrong path. If our founding fathers could see this, I'm sure they're squirming in their graves. (Remember folks according to Barry our constitution is fundamentally flawed, his own words)

I'll give you a dollar if you go on live television and mock the president of these United States by calling him 'Barry.'

Just got off work and am joining the drunkeness =)

What a fine day!!!

I will be honest I would have been happier with HRC but Biden has been a longtime favorite of mine and that selection was pure genius.

Palin the choice from no where took me off any thoughts of voting McCain just as quickly.

It shouldnt be a huge shock but pre VP nods I was out of 10 5 vote McCain 4 vote Obama, add a tremoundous VP pick and I was 5 to 5 in limbo, subtract a moronic VP pick I was 5 Obama and 3 McCain, of course add economic collapse and I went to 8 Obama 1 McCain.

Hope lives and I am content all the same.

What a wonderful day =)

Waitaminute, are you trying to say we've been on the "right path" these past 8 years?

Someone should have told the voting public that.

Great post Smash - magnanimity suits you almost as well as bragadoccio.

From this side of the pond, you've handed us an oasis of opitimism. Yes, it's going to be tough. The oil tanker that we call the western hemisphere is heading into the middle of a very choppy sea, and even with a new, confident skipper at the helm, it'll be a few years before we're back in calm water.

We in Europe now have to raise our game. I'm expecting an olive branch from across the atlantic, and we need to take it with good grace. If we have the foresight to align our foreign policies based on realism, an understanding and respect for cultures different to our own, and ask a few questions before squeezing the trigger, there's a real chance for us and our kids.

Now, it's time for Nobby to rejoice that the days of diCk phart jokes can resume in the Assylum.

Just got back from the Grant Park rally. If you saw any of the cable coverage, I'm sure you saw it and I can't really describe what it was like except that there were a shit ton of people, a lot of great emotions and a hell of a lot of cheering when CNN called the race after Virginia offically went blue. Despite the doom-sayers, there wasn't a hint of overly aggressive rowdiness tonight. After the rally, there was a huge flood of people swarming down Congress & Michigan Ave, all cheering, occassionally breaking into chants of "Obama" or "Yes We Can!" and having a good time.

At one point, it hit me and I said to Flea, "This isn't just Barack Obama we're going to listen to. This is our next president" and we both smiled and felt pretty damn good about the last year or two.

A night to remember and one I was thrilled to be a part of.
