I stopped by the firehouse on my way to work to vote...after looking at my ID he told me to go to the *other* firehouse. Apparently each of the 10 firehouses in town is responsible for a separate 3-block area of voters.

So for lunch I'm gonna go get the wife and kidlet and try again.

I've got a couple of bottles of Champagne waiting in the fridge.

Whatever the result, I'm drinking them. I might end up ecstatic-drunk, or desperate-drunk, or falling-asleep-on-the-couch-cos-of-the-stupid-time-difference-drunk, but by God I'll be drunk.

Yeah, I've warned my boss I'll probably be late tomorrow and very likely not all that coherent.

He seemed to think that would be business as usual. Smiley: glare

Apparently Colorado isn't considered a swing state anymore, I hadn't realized that Obama had gotten that far ahead in the polls in the last 2 weeks.

Even tho I live on a little insignificant (but lovely, in its own way) island in the middle of nowhere the sPacific ocean, I too am holding my breath.

To echo Red, GO GO USA! We out here, want to lurve you again. We know the last eight years were a dreadful brainfart and that you (as much as the rest of us) don't want to fu'ck it all up again.

I'm sitting around at work right now, knowing that theres no way on earth that the good people of America would allow a septugenarian with a creationist sidekick to carry on where Bush leaves off.

While I don't believe Obama is going to be all he has been cracked up to be, electing Obama will be a sign of maturity that has been somewhat lacking of late.

Goo Luck and

Huzzah!!!

Smash and I are both sick about it. He just went to a book store to go sit and read away from the radio, television, and internet for a little while, haha.

This day feels like it will never end. I'm so excited but anxious at the same time.

Areas around me have already had polling problems. One woman in charge of ballots in Raleigh forgot to get them out of the trunk of her grandsons car so pollers had to wait until they got them. Another area had a car wreck right near a polling place so the area is roped off and miles of back up are being reported. For the hell of it I went by my polling spot and while the parking lot is full I didnt see any long lines so its looking good.

I keep refreshing CNN, BBC, and Fark for new info. Seriously I cant wait for it to be 10pm tonight.

I'm trying to remind myself that no, the toddler who is contentedly entertaining himself right now is not going to do that indefinitely while I watch the news coverage and that it would probably be a good idea once in a while to get up and get him some food or you know, change his diaper.

I find myself moved by the posts expressing elation at the ability to cast a vote.

I recall the lump in my throat at the sight of lines of people lining around Soweto for their first ever opportunity to vote. So many of the black South Africans were in tears at being given a political voice for the first time ever.

So easy for us to take for granted.

Now if it's not too much trouble, would you mind electing someone who understands that the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is not exclusive to wealthy Americans. . . please?

Ok, I amend my previous comments concerning Osocialist to say "Mixed Race Neo" or Heinz 57 for short.

Ugh, don't remind me! I remember sitting with a group of friends in the hotel suite we'd gotten in the hotel where the local Democratic party's election-night festivities were being held. We sat there until about 2 in the morning watching the news as though if we sat there just a little bit longer, things would turn abruptly around, or it would be revealed that the apparent Bush victory had all been some gross misunderstanding.

Hahahaha, you people who are all worked up about this election have put too much stock in what is about to happen. No matter who gets elected will result in you getting up in the morning, going to work, coming home, ad infinitum. Nothing will substantially change. You guys have repeated your mantra of "hope, change, miracles do happen," so often, you guys actually have come to believe the hype.

Take a deep breath. Relax. Remember to calmly place the barrel of the gun in your mouth if McCain wins and squeeze the trigger. Never, ever pull. Squeeze.

I completely agree.

There's no reason why Obama shouldn't win this: his lead in the polls is huge, he's done everything right, McCain/Palin is a **** ticket that can't even get the Republican base that excited, and yet, and yet... You can't help but get that feeling that something, somewhere, might just go wrong. Maybe it's because things have been so disapointing during the last 8 years, that apprehension and anxiety have been buried deep inside us all. Maybe it's because it feels too good to be true. Maybe it's because we're standing on the edge of something truely Historic, and that's what happens when History strikes, you get a bit nervous.

I don't know. I'm still at work to make up for my lateness tomorrow morning, and all I want to do is get on a plane to the US to join the celebrations/commiserations.

The gf and I are debating whether to watch CNN or Fox tonight. I want to watch Fox because it'll be doubly nice to see their eaction if Obama wins, but she disagrees. Maybe we'll settle on Al-Jazeera.

Lol, stop. Just... stop. You're killing me here. Rosie O'Fats, Whoopie Goldberg, and Joy Behar has nothing on you guys for comedic hand wringing and sheer over-the-top emotional response. You look like high school girls on the eve of the prom who haven't been asked to go.

Lol.

No, but I do have the suspicion that George Bush doesn't care about black people.

Its true.

I remember being in the UK when Blair won the election there. Even all us hippy/anarchist/reclaim the streets/pot-smoking/Goaheads were excited and looking forward to a new hopeful future....

And look at how that turned out.

The best thing that came out of that was my finally deciding enough was enough and moving permanently to New Zealand.
