You heard it here first.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A new national poll suggests Sarah Palin may be hurting Republican presidential nominee John McCain more than she's helping him.

"Just after the GOP convention in early September, 53 percent said they would vote for Palin over Joe Biden if there were a separate vote for vice president. Now, Biden would beat Palin by 12 points if the running mates were chosen in a separate vote," said CNN Polling Director Keating

I just can't believe this breaking news! I never would have guessed!

The article should be titled "Female running mate menstruates all over campaign".

This.

Okay, it's early and I haven't had any coffee, so this might be only quasi-coherent, but here we go.

You know, when Palin first appeared on the scene, my only objection to her was the blatant tokenism behind her selection as the nominee.

But the more I've found out about her, the more steamed I become. Out of all the qualified female candidates they might have chosen, THIS is what the Republicans think a serious female presence in politics should be. THIS is what they hold up as the gold standard and ideal for women in the political process. A incompetent, ignorant fundamentalist whose political "presence" exists purely because she's cute and has a host of contrived folksy mannerisms. They deck her out in designer labels and tell us we're supposed to take her seriously because hey, she looks good even if she is dumb as a brick.

As a woman, I am deeply affronted by this, because it says VOLUMES about where the Republicans feel the place of women in politics truly is. They don't take us seriously, they just don't. We're to be condescended to with the occasional sop like selecting a pair of tits for the VP nominee, but God forbid one of us should actually be competent.

For the last few days there has been an gaggle of McCain/Palin supporters hanging out on the corner where I live. To get to the train station, I have to walk through them. There's this one halfwit of a woman with this "VIRGINA[sic] <3 PALIN" sign, and I swear, it takes every ounce of restraint I have to not belt her when she shoves that thing in my face.

Next time you should just smile at her, and in your best church lady voice say "Oh, your ****** likes Palin?"

What really irks me is, if you're going to go to all the trouble of hanging out on a street corner at 7 in the morning and getting between me and my ******* coffee, at least have the decency to spell your sign correctly.

I get it. If the Pubbies thought, as they obviously did, that they needed a woman candidate on the ticket in order to pander to women, then at the very least they should have picked a woman worthy of the position.

It's as though they'd decided to put a black guy in the VP slot and picked Steve Urkel.

I think she was the best they had, republican policy isnt really woman friendly.

I am reasonably certain there are a few female Republicans in Congress and various gubernatorial seats that would be more qualified, but they weren't MILFs.

I think they took pains to find one of the least qualified people to be a VP among the female republicans in major political positions. I wonder if Palin had refused whether they were going to tap Elizabeth Hasselback. :P

I hardly think it takes being a women to be affronted by what you may view as the pubbie thought process. I also hope that if you extend this same 'thought process' to black people, that it wouldn't take being black to be 'affronted' by the presumed pandering.

I don't think it takes a woman to be affronted by pandering to that particular demographic and doing so with such an inferior and frankly laughable selection of candidate. I do think, however, that a woman would find this more acutely and personally insulting because it hits so close to home.

I'm offended by anti-gay marriage measures such as California's Prop 8, even though I'm straight. But I don't expect that my offense is nearly as keen as it might be to a gay person in a committed relationship.

As one of the people ostensibly being pandered to, I do find it more insulting than if they'd put up another Dan Quayle.

"Here, you have a cUnt, you'll fall for this one <snort>!"

You know the discussion was along the lines of, "Clinton didn't get the nomination so we need to put some broad on the ticket. Find someone good looking and religious."

Nah, they totally should have picked Flava Flav

That clock would be a great tool on the campaign trail, he'd be able to time his speeches and not ramble on like Biden!

This was a brilliant pick. Who could have seen that this was a colossal blunder that would doom McCain's chances?

Aside from me, I mean.

Yeah, I remember bringing her up as a possibility during the summer. You laughed and laughed - why, you're laughing still.
