This.
Okay, it's early and I haven't had any coffee, so this might be only quasi-coherent, but here we go.
You know, when Palin first appeared on the scene, my only objection to her was the blatant tokenism behind her selection as the nominee.
But the more I've found out about her, the more steamed I become. Out of all the qualified female candidates they might have chosen, THIS is what the Republicans think a serious female presence in politics should be. THIS is what they hold up as the gold standard and ideal for women in the political process. A incompetent, ignorant fundamentalist whose political "presence" exists purely because she's cute and has a host of contrived folksy mannerisms. They deck her out in designer labels and tell us we're supposed to take her seriously because hey, she looks good even if she is dumb as a brick.
As a woman, I am deeply affronted by this, because it says VOLUMES about where the Republicans feel the place of women in politics truly is. They don't take us seriously, they just don't. We're to be condescended to with the occasional sop like selecting a pair of tits for the VP nominee, but God forbid one of us should actually be competent.
