Should a child have access to these weapons? Of course not.
Banning weapons will never be tolerated in the U.S.
If they're in your house, a child has access to it.

Not my house, all my weapons are in a gun safe with Bio-locks.
So unless my kids knock me out, drag me to the safe and use my fingerprints to open it, they have access to nothing.

I'm not advocating for banning all guns. I actually, unlike most people here, actually know real people who depend on hunting for food...not just for fun, but actually to be able to eat balanced meals over the course of the year. I'm asking how much is it going to take to admit that you don't need a ******* Uzi?

We spend bazillions of dollars each year on social services, child placement, education, drug prevention, suicide prevention, nutrition programs, prenatal programs, safety seats. We freak out when there's lead in the paint on a toy. When a kid gets their hands on a set of matches and burns a house down, we say that the parent should lose custody and be publicly beaten. When a kid goes into a school and shoots a bunch of other kids, we blame video games. Kid gets murdered? National news for days. Kid shoots self in the face with an Uzi in a completely preventable and unnecessary display of how neanderthal the U.S. is in comparison with the rest of the industrialized world? "Oops."

Keep clinging to the slippery slope of "a ban on completely unnecessary automatic weapons in every household will lead to them takin' away our hunting rifles" though. It's just too difficult for little kids to shoot themselves in the face with hunting rifles.

I would rather meet them with a weapon of a lower caliber that would not go thru the intruder, the wall behind him and them into my kids.

Shotguns work wonders for home defense.

Assault rifles used on home intruders is overkill. Civilians don't need to own them and most have never been properly trained to use them.

First thing I thought as I read this:

Though to be fair, the accident would've been more appropriate if the guy that gave the kid the uzi got shot. Sadly, the kid is innocent in this.

That was my thought.

To add to it, why do you hate your wife and leave her defenseless if you're not home?

Sounds more like they're your toys.

Sorry, but I'm laughing at the idea of some wingnut using an Uzi to stop a (suspected) thief, thereby ensuring the deaths of his own soundly sleeping wife and ickle ones.

Compensating. Smiley: schooled

For the record, I do own a gun. A 20-gauge shotgun that my dad gave me when I was in 8th grade. I haven't fired it in over a decade, but I still enjoy having it. If I ever really wanted to, I could go squirrel or rabbit hunting with my dad again. Beyond that, there's no reason for owning a gun.

Given I'm probably in the minority of people on this forum who is actually trained to use an assult rifle, can I just say they are completely useless as a home defence weapon.

You can say it, but Ros just did.

Personally? Neither. In the case of most break-ins, at least where I am, the intruder does not have a gun, so calling the cops with the phone that's half a foot away from my bed, and then trying to keep the intruder from escaping using a non-lethal weapon such as say, a baseball bat, a Shillelagh(yes i have one), or my old roommate's dull, but still very painful "samurai sword".

Though, if I had to pick a firearm to defend my home from an intruder, I'd go with a hunting rifle.

Ok, letting an 8 year old handle an Uzi, semi auto or full, is retarded.

Having said that, I really hate people who don't understand guns as a hobby or a form of entertainment and expect everyone else to agree with their opinion.

Back when I was a youngster, you had to be 12 years old just to attend a Hunter's Safety course. I find it odd they didn't have a minimum age around the same range at the least.

Yeah, I don't know that I'll ever understand keeping a loaded uzi as a form of "entertainment" or as a hobby. I also don't know why that should be acceptable.

It was at a gun club event, dear. You know what they do at gun clubs? They shoot guns. Yeah...

ETA: In other words, we're not talking about someone who had a fully auto uzi lying around the house with unsecured ammo. In fact, it's the polar opposite of such an event.

And I don't understand what's entertaining about that. But I can understand why you'd so grossly misunderstand my post. You seem to have a habit of misunderstanding simple opinions. Smiley: frown

I've fired guns and it was good times. Not good enough to own a gun but, if I was invited somewhere to fire a few rounds, I'd happily go.

But, as you agree with, allowing a child to fire an Uzi is just stupid. If I was a member of the gun-promoting community, I'd be pretty pissed that someone made us look so retarded.
