Hahaha... you're right. If I found a gun pointed at my head, I would probably **** my pants first. Condition Yellow isn't a state of fear, its a state of awareness, like when you're driving. Of course, when the old snowbirds come down to Phoenix, I move to condition red (threat is imminent), but yellow is just being aware. White is being oblivious. I suppose I am paranoid for never wanting to sit with my back to a door, or for always looking around whenever I'm out and about.
There are many accidents with guns, as there are with cars and boats. The latters are not designed to kill, but the end result can be bodily harm or death. But, accidental discharges never exist. Negligent dicharges do (in before HAHAHA dicharge).
If you do decide to be proactive and be prepared and decide to buy a gun, here are the 4 rules of gun safety.
1. All guns are loaded. When you pick up a gun, make sure you check it by opening the slide and checking with your eyes or finger. Even if your friend says its unloaded, check it. If you put it down and pick it back up, check it.
2. Never point the gun at anything you do not wish to destroy. This is a big one. Barrel should always be pointed in a safe direction. Even when empty. At the range, I call people out on this all the time. Why? I don't know the gun is empty. Others don't know either. Bad things can happen.
3. Keep your ****ing finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire. This is the simplest rule that almost everyone violates. Guns never fire unless the trigger is pulled. Even when empty, keep that booger hooker off the trigger. If you shoot a double tap and are waiting for the target to turn to do another double tap, keep that finger off the trigger.
4. Be sure of your target, whats around it, and what behind it. You're being robbed and there's a schoolbus full of children behind the perp? Don't shoot! You see a burglar down the hall in your house, but your children are in the rooms behind the burglar? Don't shoot!
Also, if you are defending your home, make a plan. Don't go out to confront the robber. You will lose environmental superiority. That is why a shotgun is one of the best tools for home defense. Stay put, let them come to you, and you'll never have to worry about having someone grab it around the corner.
