So, apparently at work we have a big problem of people accidently calling 911. And it's because we have to dial 9 to reach an outside line, and if we are calling long distance you ahve to hit 1-areacode-number. And some people accidently hit 1 twice. And 911 directly dials, you don't have to dial out for it...
They put out warnings in the company news letter, saying that if you accidentally dial 911, that you are not supposed to hang up, cause they will call back and then the supervisors and management have to wander around the shop and see if anyone is actually hurt (since there are 100s of phones).

Once when I was babysitting my cousins, one of my cousins locked the door when I was outside, the proceeded to dial 911 and hang up. She didn't tell me she had dialed 911 until the operator called back and told me there was a 911 disconnect from this number.
