In an election with historic consequences--some already happened, some to come?--there has been a breathtaking lack of racism. However, with some polling showing that race may play a factor in the outcome, it's interesting to note that racist groups have been almost deafeningly silent.
Is the media ignoring them? Is the Klan so low on members that they simply are unable to gather an effective measure to what they must see as one of the most frightening occurrences in modern history? Where is the Ku Klux Klan?

The Klan is badly splintered, infiltrated by law enforcement and laying low. They are smart enough to know that overt protest and action at this time can have immense negative consequences.

The KKK is a non-entity. Whatever is left of it is right there with the Black Panthers-- relegated to the dustbin of history. The white sheets and pointy cone-hats produce more giggles and gales of laughter than quivers of fear. I can't remember when the Klan actually caused anything more than a media circus.

ADA, Okla.-- Ada police are investigating how flyers for a white supremacist group ended up wrapped around delivered copies of the local newspaper.
Several subscribers to the Ada Evening News reported receiving a newsletter from the Ku Klux Klan wrapped around their local papers over the weekend.
Loné Beasley, the newspaper's publisher, said the paper was not aware of the group's activities and said it was done without the newspaper's permission.
"This is totally unauthorized activity," Beasley said. "The AEN does not in any way endorse Ku Klux Klan ideology. They have the right to distribute their message as Americans under Freedom of Speech, but they are not authorized to do so through the Ada Evening News."
The newspaper also said contract employees who deliver the papers were not responsible.
Ada police are investigating and urged residents to call police if they spot suspicious vehicles after papers are delivered.
"We are investigating this and finding out what charges can be pursued," Ada Assistant Police Chief Carl Allen said. "We will get to the bottom of this."
Apparently we still have some of the degenerates around my neck of the woods.

My family's building a house out in the boonies of South Carolina. While we were working on the house one day, we heard this awful racket coming from a neighbor's place. Since it's in the boonies, we couldn't see what was going on, so when we finished, we went to check it out.
Our neighbor 2 doors down is a high-ranking member in the KKK. There was a full-out rally there. All the colors for all the ranks and everything.
This was an interesting revelation, as we were fostering a black teenager at the time. Policemen were around, keeping an eye on things, but they said that even still the warning call was anonymous.
The KKK is still alive and well.
Yep, there are some Klan groups here in South Carolina once you get outside of the larger cities. A friend just moved to one of the smaller towns here in the upstate, and their new neighbor is always yammering on about it, he's got the robes and everything. I'm told they even have a store around here, it's either in Pauline or Laurens.

You know, it just occurred to me: I've never seen the Klan IRL. And I live right here in the birthplace of the Klan. I never expected to see them in Nashville, really. But I've been in some smaller towns too, and not once have I heard one peep about them. They must really keep a low profile around here.
