I just came across a link for Project Implicit, wich is

Quote:
a Virtual Laboratory for the social and behavioral sciences designed to facilitate the research of implicit social cognition: cognitions, feelings, and evaluations that are not necessarily available to conscious awareness, conscious control, conscious intention, or self-reflection.

I did the skin tone preference test and my result was
that I 'have a slight preference for light skin tones'.

The tests take about 5 minutes or so to complete and they are on a variety of subjects. I'm going to do the 'Sexuality' and the 'McCain/Obama' ones next.

Interesting stuff! (Well its interesting if you're sat at work with nothing much to do until later)

Holy crap!

I just did the McCain/ Obama one and

Quote:
Your data suggest no difference in your automatic preferences for White people vs. Black people

Your data suggests a slight automatic preference for John McCain over Barack Obama

I demand a recount!

Haha! I got a slight preference for white people and a strong preference for Obama over McCain.

Probably about right.

I felt that the Abled/Disabled test was extremely biased. They base a good portion of the calculations on how many errors were made when Good was associated with Abled and when Good was associated with Disabled.

But they did Good = Abled first, making you get used to the layout of the key commands, then switch. Errors could be based on either a subconscious bias or just the fact that you couldn't get used to the rules.

I'd assume that the other tests are similarly setup, where they first associate one set of options with a left/right, then another set with left/right, and then together, and then mixed reverse.

Just doesn't seem right.

Edit:
My test came up with "too many errors to count". But that's because I got frustrated half way through the last switch and just started jamming buttons until it went away.

I understand their reasonings behind the way they did it... but it's very annoying.

A few times I accidently pressed the keys too fast and ended up moving too fast haha. Like anything with automation take it 3 times and I'm sure none of us would miss one key press :)

Guess living as a white person in a majority black neighborhood and fact I spend more time among them during a week, makes a difference. I did the gender and science/humanities test first and found the words that were of the color green instead white did effect reaction.

I grew up on an army base. Army brats are fairly sheltered from racism, since in the military rank > skin color. I think I heard it described once that army brats are "anti-racist" -- we're offended by the racist behaviors of people of our own skin color.

Yeah, that describes me pretty well. I get so angry at my in-law's house! A DS pictochat convo between my fiance and I:

Him: shut up shut up shut UP!
Me: Your dad just turned purple and spittling everywhere.
Him: yeah he gets like that when he's on a "colored people rant"
Me: Your dad needs a ******* life.
Him: why do you think I left home as soon as I could?
