Rays going to the World SeriesFollow

#1 Oct 19 2008 at 6:36 PM Rating: Default
I was born and lived 12 years in St. Pete (Lived in New Port Richey / Clearwater about 30min North), and I must say all the times I went to the games, I never imagined we could compete with the crazy spenders that ruin baseball.

This is premature, but Garza is on his stuff and we're up 2-1 so lets hope, but wow this is freaking awesome! Though, I must say the bay area fans SUCK, I used to go to like 30-40 games a year and was used to hardly seeing anyone, I saw it happen with the bucs (No one went until they won) and the Lightning (Same as the bucs)

Anyways! GO RAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!! woooooo

(Also, I played 18 years of baseball (1 year of college) and even though baseball is supposed to be big in Florida it oft gets overlooked in the bay area with the exception of Tampa Catholic perhaps one of the if not best teams in the country)

Cheers!

PS I hate red sox and yankees fans with a passion!!!

Update: 3-1 WOOOOOO Aybar!!!

Why can't they both lose and then hand their spot to the Cubs?

Don't be mad because your 200+mil payroll couldn't get you past the Rays.

Whiny Red Sox fans bite me.

A couple terrible called strikes by the ump near the end against the Sox, but the Rays really did outplay us. Garza was a monster and he wasn't showing any signs of slowing down. I'm glad Lester had a decent performance, and that the Sox were at least able to turn the series around with that incredible comeback and make the Rays fight for it. Best of luck to them against the Phillies.

I remember the point this summer when the Rays made it to first place and I was thinking, the what? The who? Where did they come from? But they had a spectacular season, so props to the Rays.

I love it when "life long fans" of teams like the Rays suddenly come out of the woodwork when they're on the verge of winning.

What's that you say? The Rays are winning? To the bandwagon!!!
#14 Oct 20 2008 at 3:40 AM Rating: Default
Death, whatever it's not like there are "zero" life long rays fans. All my friends back in St. Pete / Clearwater / New Port Richey, have been life long rays fans. There aren't many of us, but, we are there.

Also, what would be the point of me making topics and posts about them when they would consistently go 60-100. I fail to see your logic here.

Oh, I'm sorry I guess us life long fans (Oh whats that you say 10 years?) cannot say anything good about my team because I will be a bandwagon fan even though I have went to at least 500+ games, and, was born in St. Pete. Blasphemy! I know.

Also, to the red sox, I just got tired of seeing the same damn two teams every year, and yea, nice fight you guys put up in the end though Rays pitching came through and was too much for you.

Sorry man. Your team has only been in existance for 10 years. The Phillies have won just a single world series in 125 years. It's been 25 years since any Philadelphia team won a championship in any of the major sports. You probably weren't even born when the Phillies last won a title. Nothing against the Rays, but Philly is due. You guys need to suffer another 15 years of losing before you can win something.

They're the second coming of the 69 Mets.

The Rays are, I mean.

Good to know you're all a bunch of 9-year-olds.

LMAO, Yea, one could conclude life-long assumes I'm 9, or one could assume life-long would assume the age of the rays. Either way I can see how that was construde ;)

For the record I'm 21. Good day.

True, it may have been a while for the phillies, but, you haven't had the stigma the rays have. You went to the post season OFTEN, I know, I used to be a fan of Lynne Dykstra and John Kruk in the early 90s, the rays, however from day ONE have been the epitome of suck. Can't compare the two sorry.

You obviously don't know your Philadelphia sports history; ****, the Phillies recently became the first ML team to lose 10,000 games. They have more of a stigma on them then the Rays could ever have: the Phillies are supposed to be competitive every year.

And the Rays stigma? Are you serious? They've been in existence for 10 years, have a yearly payroll less than the left side of the Yankees infield, and their biggest fan is Dick Vitale. They don't deserve a stigma.

They're a great story, don't get me wrong, but the Phillies match up with them extremely well, and it's going to be a very exciting series to watch.

The Rays are better than the '69 Mets. Not to mention that Gil Hodges didn't cut his hair into a Rayhawk like Joe Maddon did in support for his team--the man certainly has some brass ones.

Let's be clear, any team can compete for one year. You gotta be a big spender to compete every year though. And it's not our fault that baseball has the ********* salary cap of all of the major US sports. It's the players.

The Rays are a pretty young team and looks like they will just be getting better as their key players move into their prime.

This. Because everyone knows that most baseball players will demand more money and poor teams end up trading away the talent before it comes time to resign them. Tampa may keep a core, but that teams winning on a team effort, not just because of 1-2 players. You can't keep 3-4 really good starting pitchers without forking out big bucks. Not for more than 2-3 years, at most.
